Who would have imagined hearing the Freiburger Baroque Orchestra play Schumann, a composer of the romantic era? The FBO and conductor Pablo Heras Casado take listeners on a journey from Baroque to Romanticism, and end with a performance of Robert Schumann’s rarely heard Overture, Scherzo and Finale in E major op. 52. The „Overture, Scherzo and Finale“ was deliberately composed by Robert Schumann (1810 - 1856) as a pleasant and uncomplicated piece. But it only became an audience favorite after Schumann's death. Enjoy a unique 2014 recording from Berlin’s Philharmonic: Robert Schumann's work, played on period instruments!

The Freiburg Baroque Orchestra began as a spontaneous idea that has developed into a unique musical success story. On New Year's Eve over 30 years ago, music students in Freiburg decided to start an orchestra dedicated exclusively to historically accurate performances, played on period instruments. The FBO first performed concerts in the Freiburg area in 1987. Today, the orchestra is world-famous. In addition to its own concert series in Freiburg, Stuttgart, and Berlin, the FBO performs in the most important international concert halls and is considered one of the most distinguished early music ensembles worldwide.
