Welcome back to the Vintage Edit. Today I'm taking you outside to show you how I decorated
the front of my home for Christmas using fresh greenery, handmade touches, and a few traditions
that go back hundreds of years. Even though I didn't use vintage items in these decorations,
the traditions themselves are vintage. Garland around the doorway, a wreath on the front door,
winter greenery, and planters. These have been part of Christmas decorating since long before
modern ornaments ever existed. People have used evergreens for centuries to bring a sense of life
and protection into the home during the darkest days of winter. Wreaths symbolized welcome and
home, and planters filled with fresh branches were a way to show abundance and hospitality during the
So today as I walk you through the garland of pine and eucalyptus, the wreath with bells,
and the planters I made with forged greenery and birch branches, I'm really sharing a modern take
on traditions that have been loved for generations. So let's step outside and step into a little bit
of Christmas history. Alright, let's start right at the front door with the garland. I'm using
artificial pine mixed with eucalyptus for this. It keeps its shape really nicely and always looks
fresh even when the weather doesn't. And even though it's not real, it still brings that
classic evergreen symbolism, a little reminder of life and renewal in the middle of winter.
I've added these pine cones next. I just strung them on twine and tucked them into the top corners.
Pine cones have always been one of my favorite little touches.
They're simple, natural, and they've traditionally symbolized new beginnings, which feels perfect for
this time of year. And of course, big bows. They just make everything look finished. They've always
represented unity and connection, kind of like tying everything and everyone together. Plus,
they just make the doorway feel extra welcoming. Now let's talk about the planters. These are such
an easy way to carry that greenery right down to the doorstep. I filled them with forge branches
and some birch, which I painted white, that naturally fell in the yard, and a few bright
red berry stems for color. Decorating with planters actually goes back centuries. In Europe,
people would use winter greenery outside their homes to brighten up the darker months
and to make their front entry feel warm and inviting. It was their way of saying,
you're welcome here. There's light and life inside. I love carrying that tradition forward
in a simple, modern way. Even though these planters are styled and arranged, they still
hold on to the same meaning, a little celebration of life and a warm welcome to anyone who stops by.
For this next planter, I'm actually using a vintage decor item, this old metal milk jug.
These jugs date back to the late 1800s and were used well into the mid 1900s to carry fresh milk
from the farm to the dairy. They're sturdy, they're practical, and they have that perfectly
weathered charm that I love. I added a piece of floral foam to the top and built an arrangement
with greenery, birch branches, pine cones, red berries, and a few red ornaments. And once everything
was in place, I poured a bit of water into the foam. Since it's winter, that water will freeze
and hold the whole arrangement together all season long. It's such a fun way to give a vintage piece
a new purpose for the holidays. And we're done! Ready for the holidays and the winter season.
A funny thing happened with the berry stems I originally used. It rained and then it froze and
the berries burst, so I replaced them with styrofoam berries. And honestly, I love this look even more.
Thank you so much for joining me on this outdoor Christmas tour. As you decorate your own home this
holiday season, I encourage you to think about these traditions and the meaning behind them.
The hope, the warmth, and the joy that they bring. Christmas is a time to celebrate life,
togetherness, and the spirit of giving. And even the smallest touches of greenery or a simple wreath
can carry that feeling into your home. I'm so looking forward to sharing my next video with you
where I'll show you how I decorated my home for the holidays, blending vintage treasures
with modern style. Wishing you a season filled with light, love, and all of the little moments
that make this time of year so special. Until the next one, bye!
