Our 700cc Monster 2 Stroke might well be the scariest Dirt Bike in the world...and so far I've been too terrified to take on the beast in anger. But that changes today. In this video I've challenged myself to conquer my fears of the Megalodon and set myself a lap time goal to beat. Let's do this, let's tame the worlds scariest two stroke motocross machine!
This might be the scariest dirt bike in the country,
if not the world.
It's a 700cc monster machine
that we built in our friend's shed.
So far, we've had two big board professionals,
Ed Bradley and Neville Bradshaw tame the beast.
But I have never personally taken to the track
on board our terrifying two-stroke.
And that's simply because she scares the out of me.
But today we are gonna conquer that fear.
By no means am I a pro rider.
And my experience on big board machines
is limited to say the least.
But I am determined to tame the Megalodon here today.
I know what my lap time around the test track here is
on board a 250 two-stroke.
So the mission for this video is to beat that lap time
on board my 700cc monster two-stroke.
Wish me luck.
I think I'm gonna need it.
This is the part of the video
where I'm supposed to play a sick action segment.
But I think I really did underestimate
the challenge at hand.
Ed and Nev made it look so easy.
But for the normal rider,
taming the Megalodon really is a monumental task.
As I found out.
What was supposed to be a simple shoot
soon became my most challenging day at the track in years.
Ah!
F***!
Ah!
F***!
Ah!
F***!
Come on.
For f***'s sake.
Ah!
This is gonna be very f***ing hard.
Yeah, it's so hard that it's like.
Let's just go and do that section
and that section, the sections.
That's all you need to ride.
I can't ride it.
I'm just, it's stalling in the corners.
I don't know what to do with the gears.
I almost threw in the towel right there.
I was questioning my own skills,
whether this video was worth it
and if I could even ever ride this bike properly.
But I had a stern word with myself
and decided to get back at it,
hit the track with a new plan
and tame this beast.
Okay, so we've had a difficult morning here
out on the track.
We've had some bad weather over the last few weeks.
Which means that
the circuit's not in the best of conditions.
Especially when I've come here to test
and can't come off the edge of the Megalodon 700.
So we had a really difficult morning.
Ah!
I didn't think I was going to be able to do it this morning.
I was scared.
I was really scared of the bike.
Trying to
changing my riding style
and the technique of riding the bike.
Getting it around the track
and just kind of surviving.
I was just in survival mode this morning.
It was really difficult.
And I had a break at lunch.
Had a real good,
had a word with myself.
Had to come back out,
kind of cut the track down to the better,
the better bits,
the less wet bits.
And just really get my head down
and concentrate on trying to ride the bike.
Which I'm doing now,
is logging some laps.
And we're getting there.
We are getting there.
Like I said,
it was a very difficult morning.
I was very down on myself.
I couldn't ride it.
Starting it was a b****.
But we persevered.
We've cracked on.
And at the moment,
things are going okay.
So I don't know if I'll attempt a fast lap today.
Like I said,
the track's not in the best of conditions.
And that fast side really is wet.
So even if I was on my own bike
or two stroke or something,
I don't think I'd be logging
the fastest lap times anyway.
But I'll see.
I'll carry on doing what I'm doing at the moment.
See how we feel.
Ah!
See what I'm scared of at the moment.
Mainly what I'm nervous of.
It's just stalling in these tight corners.
The arm pump and the cramp is creeping in.
But it's mainly stalling it
and having to start it every time.
It's taking the energy out.
We've got a new gearing on it.
That nev was after a new back sprocket.
So we got that in.
I'm trying to get used to that.
We've got a hydraulic clutch.
This is really helping as well, actually.
Pull off from the gates.
So,
carry on trying to log some laps.
It's just in guzzles fuel.
Trying not to stall it in these tight corners.
That gearing that Nev has asked for is on there now.
So, trying to stress that out
and obviously test out this new hydraulic clutch
that we've got from Ben Hill.
Helped us out with that.
So yeah, that's working well.
A lot easier to pull off now.
Couldn't do that before.
Now that I was getting the hang of things
and figuring out just how you should be riding
a ridiculous 700cc two-stroke dirt bike,
we could start having some fun.
Okay, so we just completed another solid session.
That's the third session of the day,
but the second really good session this morning
was difficult, really difficult.
I just didn't know how to ride this thing.
Obviously, you have to change your style, your technique,
everything that you know about riding a dirt bike
to ride the Megalodon.
So, I was struggling with getting to grips with the bike
and just kind of trying to conquer my fears.
I've had a few whiskey throttle moments out there
and it's hard to wrangle
and it's hard to bring back under control.
This side of the track's pretty wet,
so not ideal conditions to try and learn
to ride a monster bike.
So, we stuck to the dry side of the track
and just spun lap after lap after lap,
getting used to it, getting to grips with it.
And by the end, I was actually starting to enjoy it.
The front wheels popping up
and I was enjoying it.
So, the goal of the day was to come here
and try and set a faster lap time on this
than a 2.52 stroke.
I know my lap time of 1.53 on a 2.52 stroke
around this test track.
Still a little soggy out there,
so don't know if that's gonna happen,
but I'm gonna have a rest.
The arm pump and the hand cramps are real on this.
There's no downtime on a 700,
even when you're kind of coasting around,
the vibrations are insane.
So, yeah, the hands are cramping,
the fingers are cramping and the arm pump is real,
but I'm gonna have a rest
and then I'm gonna try and piece some laps together
and see what we do lap time-wise.
So, two days after this Megalodon shoot,
I returned to the track to film another video
featuring a Husqvarna FC450,
which will be coming to the channel soon.
And with track conditions being very similar,
wet and sketchy in places,
I decided to log some laps on the 450
so we could compare times to the Megalodon
in a similar scenario.
So let's see how the 700 compares to the 450 time
and let's see if I can get anywhere close to that time
on board a 2.52 stroke.
I logged a 1.58.04 on the Meg
and a 1.59.42 on the 450.
So I'm not too close to that 2.52 stroke time,
but it just goes to show that in similar conditions,
our Megalodon 700 can be competitive.
Okay, so we've come to the end of the day here
at the test track and well, we got two conclusions.
I have conquered my fear of the Megalodon.
I was scared to hit jumps before,
I was scared to open it up.
I've done that today, I've hit every jump here at the track,
I've opened it up, I've got a whiskey throttle,
I'm over that fear.
But the second part of the mission today
was to beat that lap time,
my lap time around this track on a 2.52 stroke
and I just went out there now.
First time I've kind of pieced the whole track
together here today,
we've just been working on sections
to build up my confidence.
And I felt all right out there,
it's towards the end of the day,
a little bit tired, a little bit fatigued,
but I managed to piece the lap together
and we had the clock on 1.58 was it?
1.58, which isn't close enough, nowhere near close enough.
But the story ain't over,
we're gonna come back on a day when the track
is more similar to the conditions it was
when I set that time on the 2.52.
So this ain't over yet,
I'm determined to beat that lap time
and prove that the 700cc Megalodon
is a weapon on the track.
So that's the mission.
We're over the fear,
we're not scared of the terrified two stroke anymore,
we just need to get that lap time.
The main takeaway I have from making this video
is an absolute newfound respect
for what Ed and Nev were able to do on this bike.
The Megalodon 700 is not easy to ride
and they made it look so effortless and fun.
Seriously, thinking back to how Nev
was able to throw this thing around,
truly blows my mind.
