History is often written by the victors, but memories are always in the heart of the land.
About 3,000 years ago, when the North was still in the flames of the war,
another world existed in the south of the Yangtze River.
A world not built with cold stone walls,
but connected by the Nguoi River, by unique boats and the sound of the golden bell calling the sun.
The Central Plains called them with a mysterious and eerie name,
Bach Viet.
Bach is not the number 100.
Bach is the numberless.
It is the 100 families, the 100 tribes, the 100 poor roads of a huge community of farmers.
But history is a hot stream.
It has no place for weakness,
and sometimes it is cruel to even the most barbaric civilizations.
A great and bloody battle took place throughout the 5th century.
Mo Viet, the master of the legendary swords, was lost.
Man Viet, the warriors who fought to keep the river, were wiped out.
Dien Viet, the owner of the fake bronze vessels, was assimilated.
Each name of a time was lost and forgotten.
Bach Viet was confiscated,
cut into pieces,
and destroyed,
until there was only a small stronghold in the south.
Why?
Why did those brave brothers die?
And why did Lac Viet, our ancestor,
become the greatest survivor in this battle?
This is not just a story about wars.
This is a cultural journey.
A journey to find the missing pieces of history
to answer the most urgent question.
Who are we?
And why are we still standing here,
on this land,
telling this story?
Welcome to Bach Viet, Sích Quỷ.
Let's start our journey from Giang Tô, Triết Giang,
where was the territory of Mo Viet.
In 1965,
the ancient world was shaken.
The sword of Viet Vuong, Câu Tiễn, was found.
It was not its owner,
but the technology that created it.
After more than 2,400 years under the ground,
it was still sharp enough
to cut through 20 layers of paper
with just one touch.
The Viet people were not just craftsmen.
They were the great scientists of the ancient world.
They invented the technique of forging a box,
forging two different kinds of metal boxes
on the same sword.
the blade was made of metal,
and the blade was made of metal.
They knew how to use the metal
to create an anti-oxidation coating,
a technique that the West
had to lose nearly 2,000 years later
to reach.
Why did a nation with such a
intelligent and super-Viet technology
disappear without a trace?
The answer lies in two words,
location.
Mo Viet is located on a farmland,
but it is also a land
that is not open to the military.
Its location is too close,
close to the roots of the
flowering civilization that is boiling.
The wealth of the Mo Viet
stimulates the greed of the northern
nomads, and the flat terrain
makes them have no way out.
They are forced to participate
in the cruel rule of the Central Plains.
The story of Viet Vuong Cau Tien
is the most soulful testimony
to the bravery of the Mo Viet people,
but that is also the beginning
of their end.
To rule a large territory
after the war,
and to be recognized by other
nomadic countries as a master,
the elite class of the Mo Viet
volunteered to be Han Chinese.
They imported culture,
words, and even their political
ideologies.
This is a sweet trap.
When the elite class of the Mo Viet
became like the Han people,
the gap between them and the
indigenous people became wider,
and when Vietnam was wiped out
by the Soviet Union in 333 BC,
the collapse took place.
There was no longer a cultural barrier,
the Mo Viet people were quickly
disintegrated into the Soviet people,
and then the Tans, the Han people.
They forgot their roots.
Thanh Kiem Cau Tien is still there,
but the people who know
how to remove it are no longer there.
The Mo Viet people died
because they lost themselves.
Leaving the northeast,
we go to the Phu Kien coastline.
This is the territory of the Mo Viet,
also known as the Dong Viet.
If the Mo Viet people were
talented artisans,
then the Mo Viet people were
the warriors of the ocean.
The signature of Tu Ma Thien describes them.
They cut their hair, dye their hair,
live with snakes, and eat shrimp.
Do these descriptions sound familiar to you?
That's right,
they are the brothers
who have the closest
to our ancestors.
They did not dye themselves to be beautiful,
they dyed themselves to threaten the ocean
to affirm that they are the children
of the ocean.
The strength of the Mo Viet
lies in the warships.
While the northern people,
who were nomads, feared the ocean,
the Mo Viet considered the ocean their home.
Their shipbuilding skills
have reached the highest level.
They know how to use firewood,
they know how to use oil to
destroy ships against the water.
The ships of the Mo Viet
can carry soldiers and food
thousands of miles away,
they can attack deep into the inland
and retreat safely.
The ownership of this coastline
has helped the Mo Viet to survive
longer than the Mo Viet,
but it is also the reason
why the Mo Viet was destroyed.
In 110 BC,
Han Vũ Đế realized that
defeating the Mo Viet army
was not enough,
the Mo Viet would return
to destroy the fish.
A large-scale military campaign
was launched.
Dozens of thousands of Han troops
flooded from many directions,
roads and seas.
The Mo Viet was defeated,
but the real tragedy had just begun.
The history of Han Vũ Đế
is recorded in the Cold War.
The people left,
abandoned the land.
This is one of the most
violent and destructive
civil wars in ancient history.
All the Mo Viet residents
were expelled from their familiar environment.
They were forced to migrate
deep into mainland China,
surrounded by the Han people.
They were separated from the sea,
their shipbuilding skills became useless.
They were isolated from the community,
and their language was getting worse.
Their customs were blocked
and they were regarded as beggars.
Those who managed to escape
ran to the high mountains
and became the ancestors
of the Xe and Sa people.
They lived in poverty
and lost all the sea air.
The name of the Mo Viet,
the children of the river,
the soldiers of the river
was erased forever.
An angry death
was not on the battlefield,
but on the road of exile.
Leaving the bloody sea of the Mo Viet,
we went back in time
to the Vân Nam plateau.
Here, hidden deep in the soil
around Diên Trì Lake,
archaeologists found the trace
of a strange civilization,
the Diên Viet Kingdom.
If the Mo Viet people
sent their souls to the sword,
the Diên Viet people hid their secrets
in the copper towers
with the money shells.
The shell is not just money,
it is a symbol of prosperity
and the power to control
the trade routes of the Southwest.
But take a closer look
at the cover of these towers.
A small world is emerging,
lively and scary.
The Diên Viet culture is not as peaceful
as we thought.
The pictures on the walls
tell us about an extremely
harsh time.
There, the boundary between
the master and the slave
is life and death.
They believe that the blood
of Tu Binh and Gia Suc
will satisfy the gods
with rain, wind and fire.
This is a rich,
brutal society,
but also full of charm.
They carve small details
with rice on copper,
a technical level
that even the artisans
must respect.
Take a look at these two towers.
One is found in China,
the other is a national treasure of Vietnam.
Can you tell the difference?
The similarity is up to 90%.
The same aesthetic philosophy,
the same hot-blooded technology
and the most important,
the same language.
The bridge of the sky
in the Vietnamese folk culture
also represents the dignity
of the Vietnamese people.
Both ethnicities,
whether living in the high mountains
or in the plains,
yearn for the sound of rain
on the rice fields.
The archaeological research
has shown that
the Vietnamese and Lac Viet
are two branches
growing from the same root,
the same rice-water civilization,
the Hong and Ma rivers.
We are brothers,
the sound of their footsteps
is enough to shake the earth,
the dust of the sky.
This is the most modern
and disciplined war machine in the world.
But the fair history
is not only about the number of soldiers.
When the footsteps
entered the land of the Europeans,
the war machine of the Tân
suddenly collapsed.
The tropical rainforest
is not the Northern Hemisphere.
Here, horses are useless iron,
the heavy armor
is the furnace of human flesh.
And the biggest enemy
is not human, but nature.
Fever, snake venom,
and the burning heat.
The Vietnamese fled into the forest,
no one wanted to be captured by the Tân army.
They put people together
to become generals
to fight the Tân army at night.
The Europeans and Vietnamese did not fight directly.
They understood that
killing themselves with an egg is suicide.
They chose to turn themselves into ghosts.
During the day,
they dispersed into the forest
to let the Tân army
occupy the empty houses.
But when the night fell,
the nightmare began.
For three years,
it was not a fight,
but thousands of small attacks.
The Chinese book had to admit
that the Tân army was stationed
in a useless land,
unable to move,
unable to fight,
unable to escape.
Men wore armor,
women worried about transportation.
The soldiers did not dare
to take off their armor and lie down to sleep.
The epicenter was the death
of Do Thu,
the commander-in-chief of the Tân army.
A general who once punished the law
finally died
because of the poisonous nails
of the people who tied the nets and shot.
The blood of the Tân army
was red in the south.
The defeated war machine
was broken right here.
In that great victory,
a man, Thục Phán,
He did not dwell on the victory.
He saw a more terrible future
coming.
The Vietnamese and Lạc Viet could not stand alone.
Mân Việt died of loneliness.
Điền Việt died of illusion.
A decisive decision
was made,
not an invasion
of the mountainous region
to the plains,
but a necessary political marriage.
Thục Phán ascended the throne
and named the country Lạc.
That name is a bold statement.
The combination of the military strength
of the Vietnamese and Lạc Viet
and the economic and cultural
potential of the Vietnamese and Lạc
is unimaginable.
A real cannon was built
to welcome the next
storm of history.
Finally, we come back to Lạc Viet,
the core of the Vietnamese people.
Compared to Ngo Viet Tinh Sao,
Mân Việt Thiện Chiến,
or Điền Việt Dấu Có,
Lạc Việt people seem to be the most normal.
They are just farmers
who are full of watercress and buffalo.
When the Han army fell,
Lạc Việt seemed to be defeated quickly.
The capital of An Dương Vương collapsed,
the city of Loa was occupied.
On the military side,
we lost. On the political side,
we lost the country.
But why, for a thousand years,
was the world's strongest enemy ruled?
Lạc Việt people did not disappear like other brothers.
Why did we not become Han people?
The secret lies
in a great biological weapon,
bamboo,
and an excellent social learning weapon,
the village.
Lạc Việt people did not build a powerful state,
they hid water in the village.
Each part of the village
was a self-propelled cannon.
The thick bamboo was not only resistant
to bullets,
but also a soft boundary
with foreign power.
Northern people could occupy the city,
but their power stopped in front of the village gate.
According to the language,
the king's rule over the village
was not a chaos,
but a modern cultural defense mechanism.
Inside the bamboo,
Vietnamese was still spoken,
ancient stories were told,
and black teeth were still kept.
The village was still there, the country was still there.
More than the village structure,
the thing that kept Lạc Việt people
from disintegrating was the water tap.
To plant a water tap,
they had to use water.
To stop the flood,
an individual or a family could not do it.
They were forced to reunite,
forced to live in community.
The string that connected the word
was tighter than any law of the Han dynasty.
The water tap
created a strong community bond,
a social bond
that the policies of the North
could not break.
We are intimidated by the body,
but by the soul,
we cannot be offended.
Looking back at the journey of 4,000 years,
blood and tears,
we realize a shocking truth.
Bach Viet has never died,
but the names Ngô, Mân, Điền, Âu
may have disappeared on the political map,
but their genealogy and culture
have not disintegrated.
They have migrated,
assimilated and reunited this land.
Let's take a look at Vietnamese people today.
In the cleverness of Vietnamese workers,
there is the brilliance of Ngô.
In the toughness of the fishermen
of Ly Sơn, Trường Sa,
there is the blood of Mân.
In the spirit of the village of Ngày Xuân,
there is the glory of Điền.
And in the art of war,
there is the lesson of blood of Europeans.
We are not only Vietnamese,
we are the only descendants
of the great Bach Viet civilization.
The existence of the name Vietnam
on the map of the world today
is not a coincidence of creation,
nor is it a gift of compassion.
It is the result
of a brutal and
despicable struggle in human history.
We have refused to be forgotten,
we have refused to be assimilated,
the powerful empires
used to want to erase us.
Tân, Hán, Đường, Tống,
Nguyên, Minh, Thanh,
they are all gone.
They have become dusty books,
but the Vietnamese are still here.
Sích Quỳ is a legend,
Bach Viet is history,
and Vietnam is survival.
We are the ones who keep the fire,
and that fire will never go out.
Proud is the Vietnamese.
