Discover fun ways to fill your sketchbook through illustrated journaling. Kate shares her favorite prompts and ideas to begin the mindful practice of documenting your daily life and finding new ways to express your creative ideas.
Hello, I'm Kate Sutton, a freelance illustrator.
My works are featured in many books on fabric design,
including Sunday Times and the Lonely Planet magazine,
as well as in many editorial illustrations.
Life is like a small shelter I carry with me.
Books provide me with a space
that allows me to explore and express myself through drawing.
Keeping a diary is a great way to face the blank page.
It motivates us to be creative,
improves our drawing habits,
and allows us to discover new techniques.
This process requires us to live in the moment,
like meditation, and improves our mental health.
In this Domestika course, you will learn to create
a daily illustrative daily habit
by using a sketchbook and focusing on your own life.
For the final project,
you will start filling in the pages of your illustrative daily life
with different approaches and drawing techniques.
To begin, we will discuss the basic principles of an illustrative daily life
and how it can increase creativity and be therapeutic.
Then, we will look at how to get inspiration from the materials you use
and how to collect references.
Then, we will look at various drawing techniques and color selection.
Then, it will be time to start using our daily life.
We will use different techniques at every step
to create pages that depict the things we are grateful for,
what we ate that day, and the world around us.
We will also fill the blank pages with the things we love.
I will show you how to draw, sketch, and organize,
and how to share your work on social media
and keep a diary.
At the end of the course,
you will be able to discover various techniques
when you try to improve your breathing and daily awareness habits.
Although the basic drawing skill is useful,
only a sketchbook, a brush, a fine-tipped pen,
a pencil, and an eraser are enough to follow.
Document your daily life and put your feelings on paper.
