Look at that flag go.
I think I'm lost.
Have I lost my drone?
I've already lost my drone.
Okay, so this is my first mountain bike test
with the DJI NEO 2.
And I have it set to follow me
and medium distance and flat height.
And I kind of wanted to use high height,
but I do have a lot of overhead obstructions,
tree branches and stuff.
So I think flat is probably better.
So that's what we're going to go with.
And we'll see how it does.
So let's get it in the air here.
Okay, I should just be able to press the
button on the side.
Rear, two, one.
Okay, here we go.
Yeah, lots of tree branches here.
So should be a good test
of its ability to navigate.
Oh boy.
It's getting crazy back there, Rubes.
Yeah, so these are the things I worry about.
The big ones, probably not so much.
The little skinny branches are probably more problematic.
Good job, Ruby.
Whoa.
Keep going, Rubes.
Well, so far I still have a drone with me.
Impressive navigation.
There's no doubt that the original NEO
would have probably crashed by now
because it could not avoid obstacles at all.
So yeah, this is 100% better.
Well, yeah, NEO 2, still on my tail.
Very good.
So far, very good.
Kind of impressed.
I know there's gonna be scenarios that will foul it up,
but for the price of this drone,
I think this is quite good.
Wow, that's pretty good.
That's a pretty, pretty tight stand of trees there.
And it's still here.
Very good.
Are you taking a shortcut, Rubes?
Ooh, backlit tree branch.
Still got a drone.
Okay, Rubes, go ahead.
Okay, well, that's really good.
That's really impressive.
This section was really tough and it did really well.
It just ran out of battery.
So yeah, I'm quite impressed so far.
So we'll get another battery in there
and give it the downhill test next.
I think that's one thing that's gonna be,
I don't know, the major complaint on this drone
is it doesn't, flight time is just too short.
Same as the NEO, but this one's just more fun,
more capable.
You're gonna wanna fly it more.
And they didn't improve the battery life at all.
So yeah, definitely, you're probably gonna want
more batteries with this drone, eh, Rubes?
What do you think?
If you're a fast downhiller, it can't keep up.
The specs tell you right away.
So not worried about that.
I'm not a fast downhiller.
I just wanna see how well it navigates.
So yeah, let's get going.
Let's go.
Okay, Rubes.
And it is like super windy up here.
So I guess we're doing a wind test at the same time.
It is crazy windy.
Wow.
Look at that flag go.
I think I'm, have I lost my drone?
I've already lost my drone.
Where's the drone, Rubes?
Oh boy.
Can hear it.
Oh, it's way up there.
Oh my God.
It's coming down.
I don't know why.
Maybe it saw me.
Good job, Rubes.
Good job, yeah.
Smell the drone.
Good job, good job, good job.
I understand that.
So you have to track that later.
Okay, so I don't know why it lost me there.
The wind is just howling.
You can probably hear it and see it.
I'm gonna put this in my pack for now
till we get sort of off this bluff here
and around the corner and we'll try again.
Okay, so we are.
Follow three.
We're follow flat again.
Good girl.
So like I said, I already know that
if I'm wide open downhill, I can outrun this drone.
But that's not what it's all about.
For me, it's more about,
can it navigate the trails that we ride?
And so far, it is doing a really good job.
Oh, this could be tricky.
Oh, made it.
And I think this is a really good test
with the light too,
because we're late November here.
So sun is really low in the sky
and then you get, it's just difficult light, right?
All the shadows and stuff.
So we've lost it.
Oh, come on.
You're stuck again?
Just what I was saying, right?
The lighting, backlit.
That's very tricky.
Hey, little friend.
Detected aircraft landing automatically.
Well, it wasn't really a collision.
Okay, let's just get it out over here.
Gonna do another battery swap
and primarily I just wanted to give it a reboot here.
I think it's a little bit crazy right now,
but we'll do a battery swap
so we have a full one to work with.
Rear, two, one.
Okay.
Watch out, Rubes.
Ruby, here we go.
Good job, Rubes.
That's pretty good.
This has been a really tricky stretch
because we're descending quite rapidly at times
and there's a lot of overhead obstructions,
so the fact that it's still here is impressive.
Okay, now we've got some pretty decent wind
and I can still hear it, so that part's good.
Hairpin corners can always be tricky
and it's still here.
Keep going, Rubes.
Okay, hang on, Rubes.
I think I'm gonna stop the test here.
Wow, that was quite impressive.
That was a pretty difficult trail in terms of,
well, for the drone anyhow,
in terms of overhead obstructions,
hairpin corners, drop in elevation.
We had a whole bunch of backlit scenarios
and even this time of year, it's late November,
so the sun is really low in the sky.
Got these really long, deep shadows.
So yeah, through all of that,
it only got hung up a couple of times
and I think that's just excellent.
I think it did a really good job
of navigating through all of that,
especially for a drone at this price point.
So yeah, I'm quite impressed.
That was really good.
