Hi everyone, welcome back for another tutorial. Today I'm going to show you how to paint an angel
and I'm working on an 11 by 14 primed and stretched canvas. I'll be using the following
brushes, a 14 filbert, a three round, a 20 flat, and a one inch mop brush. The colors I'm using
are titanium white, neon pink, lemon yellow, crimson red, phthalo blue, and lamp black.
I'm going to begin the painting by adding a little bit of water to the canvas.
This helps the canvas take the paint better and helps with blending.
Okay, I'm just going to brush that water evenly over the canvas with my flat brush.
Okay, now what I'm going to do is take a combination of white, blue, and black.
I'm just going to add that all over the canvas and I'm applying it up and down
first and then I'll come in and add a few more directions with my brush and my brush strokes
after. I'm going to add a little bit more white. Before this dries, I'm going to take my mop brush
has nothing in it, it's just nice and soft, dry, and we're just going to go around in little circles
just to soften that background. Okay, I'm going to take a little bit more white now
and blend that around still using my mop brush and I'm going to take a little bit more
and I'm just going to add that down here by adding gentle little figure eights.
Just add a little bit more here before I dry this off.
Okay, what I'm going to do now is take my filbert brush. I'm going to mix up a little bit of
pink, yellow, and white. You just want to have a little bit of paint in your brush to work with
mostly on the end of the brush and where I have these lighter spots, I'm just going to go
just outside of them and partially on them adding a bit of light to the sky
and kind of just helping to draw our eyes in more to these pretty areas here. I'm going to add a few
little rays of light just gently pulling. My brush is pretty dry, there's just a little bit of paint
in there. I'll apply a second layer this time with a little bit more of the yellow in it and
just going to soften and I'm going to add a little bit of those colors down here as well.
Okay, pink, white, and yellow. I'm going to get a little bit more of the pink
and overlap that partially on the gray, partially where I left off with the peach shade.
I just kind of lift up scoop with my brush like this and then go around in little circles with
a dry brush. Now because I had some water spots there, it's when I take the or brush the water
off, it actually took off a little bit of the gray paint which is fine, it happens. Don't panic
when that happens, just use it as an opportunity to add something else you didn't plan on or didn't
expect for and it ends up being one of those little happy accidents in your paintings. So what I'm
doing is just adding a little bit more of the pink in here. Very little paint. Okay, I'm going to
come in here now with a little bit of blue and black, thinned out bit of water in there. Okay,
with the end of my brush I'm just going to pull a few trees in here and maybe one right here.
I'm just going to have some little sweeps, kind of a push and tap and a little flick and sweep.
I'm going to add a little bit of white, a little bit more, and now just a touch of
snow on here. I just want everything about this painting to feel very light and angelic,
peaceful and tranquil. Just adding a touch of that blue down here as well, a little bit more white,
mix up that powdery blue again. I'm going to add a little hint of it
up top here just to sort of tie everything together. Those pretty colors, muted pastel tones,
soft and pretty. I'm going to just create a little glowing powder blue. Same colors,
just more white to make it really soft, glowy. Okay, we can start cutting in with our angel now.
I'm going to use a combination of blue, black, and red, and we'll start with the head here.
So just gently push, create a oval shape, and then we're going to come in and add a figure eight.
So we're going to start from here and then turn over. We can get wider down here.
Okay, I'm going to paint this in. We're going to widen the waist. We're going to take a little bit
of white and a bit more red in there to make this frosty kind of purple. We're going to just kind
of wiggle and twist around. Let's take some more, a little bit more red again, a bit more white,
and just add a few little lines and soft ripples just by wiggling your brush around.
Okay, let's go back over to the blue, red, and black. I'm going to come up a little bit higher
color, some black, yellow, and red. I'm just going to tap that on and then tap, tap, tap,
a little bit over her back. Okay, I'm going to take a little bit of that blue and the white,
add a little bit right in there. Okay, from the inside right here under her arms,
just a little ray of light. Okay, let's go over to our round brush now. I'm going to add some white
in with the red, black, and yellow, and I'm just going to add some highlights to her hair,
just kind of going around and making little wiggles and squiggles. Okay, I'm going to come
down here with a little bit of white, pink, and yellow. I'm leaving a little room for
shadows under her gown. I'm going to go back over to that soft purpley color.
I'm adding a little bit more white and just a few little highlights, ruffles on her sleeves here,
and then just adding a few more lines, making them wider down here at the base,
and then squiggling around to just soften that and have it kind of just
disappear into the snow. I'm going to add a little bit of that light peachy color,
like what we have up here. I'm going to add that here for some light hitting the top of her head.
Okay, so I'm going to start with that light purple base color, a little bit of blue, black,
and red in there. I could mix up a little bit more, probably don't even need the black,
just some blue and red and a little bit of white. We're going to add a little line right here
and another one right here, and then I'm going to scoop up, scoop up,
and we're going to curve over and then let off and bring it out. So scoop, bring it up,
over, let off, and then we're just going to gently pull and flick like this for the feathers. So you
going to take some of that peachy color, and we're going to go up, over, and just outline that.
Okay, I'm going to mix up some more over here, a little bit more yellow in there.
We're going to add a little curve in here. Okay, and then you're just going to start
pulling into those wings to add some little feathers. I'm going to get shorter and shorter
in between, partially over that peach and partially over the purple base color.
I don't have a lot of paint in my brush. I want it to look soft and feathery. I'm going to go
pretty peach shade down here over part of the dress. And let's take a little bit of
pink, blue, with a little bit of white in there so it's lighter than what we've got here.
Lighter than that dark blue-red base. Mix up a little bit of that light color in there.
Okay, I'm going to come in and make her wings look a little bit more light filtered,
and then I'm going to add a few more rays of light coming from here. So I'm going to go back over to,
you can use your flat brush too, I'm going to use my filbert brush. It's a bit damp, just enough
just a little bit to those trees. And we'll go back over to the hair color,
add a little bit more peach into that, a little bit of red and blue. We've got a lot of white
over here. Okay, and I'm going to add a staff here. I'm going to use my flat brush, that kind
light golden peach shade. Just get a thin amount on the end of the brush,
and then I'm just going to add a glow here, kind of just tapping on across shape,
and then adding some dots and dabs across that. A few more little sparkly dots with the white.
It kind of resembles a snowflake, and a star, whatever it looks like to you.
And then I'm just going to add a few right there. I'm going to take my finger,
quite often I'll just do this, add it with the brush, and then I soften with my finger.
soft, light purpley color, kind of just looping up and down, and then brushing that lightly over
wings, because it's just drying a little bit darker, so I've made that same peach shade.
Okay, I hope you guys enjoyed this one. Thanks for watching,
and I want to wish you all the best. See you soon in another video. Bye!
