ABOUT ME I’m Andrew Jensen, a former full time touring professional that played on PGA TOUR Canada, Latinoamerica and almost every North American based mini tour from 2008-2020. I want to use my playing experience to inspire golfers to improve their own game and have more fun with this amazing game we play!
all right well welcome to the PGA show
welcome back to the channel we're doing
it a little bit differently than last
year where I recap the best things I saw
at the show back home in the studio now
we're doing this live from the PGA show
thanks to the PGA of America and their
set up here for media Studios and I have
a friend of mine but also someone that I
look up to a lot now that I'm in this
gear Space Mr Ryan Barra another Great
Canadian boy here right from scr
supposed to be here getting out of the
freaking cold and it's like know so cold
know it's very very cold like I I drove
two hours from Jacksonville and there
was snow in the forecast and they
canceled school yeah we brought Canadian
weather with us but you're here with
your family and you guys are doing
Disney doing Disney we did the whole bit
and uh yeah it's fun I mean I'm we're
here with uh as you kind of alluded to
like here with the scratch team yeah
it's our first PGA show here um and you
know as the as the gear are there it's
like this is like kind of the mecca to
see everything all in one place which is
a lot of fun I know for me so if you
don't know basically this is our recap
of the coolest things we've seen at the
show while we're here and for me new in
this newer in this space I've been
coming to the show since 2018 but it was
always so focused on like my sponser of
Taylor Made and Adidas and then over the
last couple years I've been to look at
so much more and it's like there's so
much great and cool golf equipment so
bit of our flow here we're each going to
talk about when they're there could be
overlap like the five kind of coolest
things we've seen on the floor right
behind us so as the guest take it away
what's like in no particular order it's
not like one thing's cooler than the
other but like what are the things that
are sticking out to us so in no order I
think one of the biggest things that I
see now and as someone who like wants to
do this for myself I know you built one
yourself as well follow the channel uh
your own indoor hitting bed I live in a
cold climate even now here like down in
Florida today it's a cold day they got
indoor simulator places all around here
because if it's not nice outside and you
want a place to hang out or you want to
go someplace at night and you don't want
to go to a top golf or you want to do
you know just maybe lock into a little
bit of practice having that like your
own space they've become so much more
affordable now and some of them are even
becoming allinone so you've got
companies here doing projectors and Turf
and all these things and like one of the
ones that I've had the chance to test
and I saw it again and seeing people's
reaction to it in real time like the
Garmin R50 yeah that thing looks I
haven't got my hands on it but yeah it
looks like it's all in one it is it's
all inone it's like I don't know the the
size of like a a 12-pack of like 12 O
cans like whether it be your drink of
choice bles yeah and so with that in
mind like you've got this big screen and
it is so intuitive yeah and I think
that's the thing that we see now with
modern technology is like if my dad or
someone else is going to go get one of
these things right right like they want
to be able to put it down and use it
yeah inside and out it doesn't matter
and so like we're seeing I think the
advancements in software as well as the
way these these systems integrate into
each other is so much fun cuz I've even
noticed on the channel over the last
year and a half like videos about
affordable launch monitors affordable
setups do so well cuz so many people are
interested in it because like the
barrier of Entry is so much lower to do
it like I even remember growing up like
for us especially growing up in Canada
like to find an indoor place was hard
and no chance you're doing it yourself
at home no and then it's like your net
set up and then your nets don't give you
the greatest readings it's it's it's
amazing yeah it's one of those things
and every booth that has it it's
basically a Showcase of like you could
build this at your house yeah it's not
just our launch monitor but look you
could build this at home and there's a
lot of them selling obviously to like
places that are building out Studios and
building out bars restaurants and those
kind of like facilities that are would
be like kind of bigger accounts but they
also have the personal side of these
things where it's like look we will
Design and we have contractors who are
available who know how to install our
our equipment we can put one in your
house we put one in your garage we can
put one in a separate space if you want
in your house in your backyard wherever
it happens to be and to me like the
accessibility to the technology is the
biggest part of that story and that's
why I think it's like probably the
number one thing cuz we we got lots of
clubs to talk about yeah but this the
accessibility to play the game when you
want how you want to in the comfort of
your own house or your garage use it as
a game improvement tool yeah I think
it's it's still one of the things that
like every single year because it's
technology focused cost comes down
quality goes up and it benefits the
consumer yeah okay so I'll I'll kind of
my stuff was mainly clubs cuz like
that's what I'm trying to pay attention
to but so flight scope released a
rangefinder and at first I'm like okay
cool rangefinder I was not and I've used
I've been like a Meo plus loyalist
forever and I was like a range finder
cool like and then when I got there and
like got to experience it and like what
it is with the gapping with the AI and
the environmental optimization like it's
a rangefinder that is legitimately going
to caddy for you
yeah I know another brand has done it I
know like Bushnell and I don't know the
how their stuff is all with foresight
and Bushnell I don't know that but like
I only put my seven iron for like the
like AI gapping and the numbers it
guessed that my yardages would be with
my irons were like pretty damn accurate
so then you get this Rangefinder that
takes into account air moisture humidity
wind and then whatever data you put in
input from Simply da d da or from your
practice sessions about how far you hit
your golf clubs you now have a rang
finder that's like okay it's 132 yards
but it's playing like 138 8 you should
hit X based on like you should probably
hit a n like as opposed to like oh it's
132 maybe it's playing like I'm may like
a hard pitching wedge that is really
really cool I I I didn't expect much
from it but it definitely made my like
top top five coolest things I saw cuz
that was like yeah super unexpected I
think the other part of this is as well
is that the integration of helping the
game improvement side of things yeah
that we're seeing more of that because
we know as like from the equipment space
and I've talked to people here because
of the rules of golf because of the way
that they're able to integrate really
great engineering from all these oems
the incremental improvements that we are
seeing in equipment
is better offset when people get fit
right like you see the the huge
Advantage when you actually get fit for
Club so a lot of these companies are
leaning into um more fitting technology
think again the next I talking about is
which I've had the chance to test
already is Cobra's future fit 33 they've
got more settings than anybody else in
the hosle you add that into the idea of
the fact that look we're going to give
Fitters this chart to help golfers get
fit now look I'm not saying that other
companies don't have fitting tools they
all do but for them to go I don't want
to say go out of their comfort zone but
like to really step ahead and be like
look we're going to put our steak in the
ground this is where we think it should
be this is where we want our product to
be I think it it looks great as far as
Buzz is concerned coob Bruce buzzing
yesterday you know they got yeah they
got even demo day in the rain I was
there had the biggest T they had the
biggest cover but demo day was really
exciting like exciting there it was
really fun like that driver is got to
hit it and it was impressive for sure I
think so like that that that was in my
top five too a bit of the DS adapt but
pairing with the shaft that I got to
test the DS adapt in by brand r
ARA ARA never even heard of them didn't
even know turns out I I knew one of the
guys from back in the day when I was a
club fitter he worked for matrix 12
years ago he he gave me a custom shaft
with my name on it 12 years ago didn't
even know about this company and I went
I went between gray and and blue and it
was like wow this is an impressive he
gave me the whole Spiel and explain it
to me and it's a bit like I gloss over a
little bit I don't know the whole it's
not that interesting to me exciting to
me but like the performance and the feel
and the stability wo and then even in
that little fit experience and it was
like I hit it first and it was like
4,400 RPM spin so my brain like a Sha's
way too spinny all he did was change two
weights in the driver head didn't change
Loft into anything Chang changed two
weights in the driver head 22 20 like I
never hit it higher than 23 RPM then we
put the other one in it was like coming
off a little higher on the face so it
was kind of like 17 18 it kind of opened
my mind to like that dve driver's
performance but there's a lot to you
could you could do 33 seems overwhelming
but it's like it's actually more focused
and narrow but that driver that shaft
experience that's like yeah that that
makes my top five for sure I I I can't
wait to get those shafts into my driver
whatever driver I land on this year yeah
oh so good I think the thing with with
with shafts a lot of people think about
like obviously Fields really important
people talk about how how they you know
spin profiles and all that stuff but
what it's really doing is like it's a
timing device that you as like with your
golf SG and your feels helps get the
club phas to the point where it's
supposed to be an impact right like you
talked about changing shaft CH changing
face impact right are we talking about
maybe one featur is a slightly softer
tip or a stiffer tip we're talking about
shaft troop we're talking about closure
rates talking about all these different
things and when you find that right one
that's why it's so important so when you
see new options or things that are going
to feel different for again for yourself
you experiencing it's like well you get
that locked in it feels like it's
supposed to you get the weights change
the settings all thing and now obviously
you're you're getting the numbers that
you want right and that's that's why the
shaft fitting side of things is so
important is because you want to make
sure that you know not only does it feel
good but you're making Center contact
exactly you talked about that right like
once you find that contact point in the
space you're locked in so I'm I'm going
to jump in for number three I'm going to
kind of piggy backing on fitting so I've
just released all my avod custom fit
videos and like people have been loving
them such a different experience going
through that fitting with Tom and what
he focuses on but avod has there which I
knew it was coming but I got to see it
here their irons with curvature on the
face it's so cool like I saw the the
ones Bryson's like I've seen those ones
when I was at their headquarters but the
irons they have here with like variable
curvature more in the four iron all the
way down to pitch wed is like it's one
of the most Innovative it's they're a
small Booth
here but they irons with curve in their
face yeah that's not anywhere else and
I'm like that's one of the most
Innovative things on the show floor in
my opinion and like they change the
finish on the irons they look so good
I'm like I cannot wait to hit these I
need to check that out I haven't been
over there yet it's it's very
very it's very like I mean bulge and
roll on F iron faces was something that
a challenger that club tried like years
ago like a driving iron the controller
the controller but then that's that' be
in my lip that's that's the third thing
I'll mention it's brief because it's not
a whole Deep dive but like irons with
curve on the face is that going to be
something that we start to see yeah
people because the forgiveness and the
ability like we stream with the sub 70
driver curvature on the driver face yeah
creates really good good Moi throughout
the whole face yeah it was pretty cool
right on yeah I got to check those out
yeah you do there we go for me here
first there you go um the other thing I
want to see like I really liked and I've
been a big fan of theirs for a long time
is um the true links wear shoes okay you
know like going shoes nice going shoes I
think people
forget that and like look there's a lot
of people here with like you got swing
Catalyst here yeah you've got other
Force plade companies here talking about
how to improve your golf swing you know
this is not just an equipment show there
is there's a lot of like health and
wellness and fitness and we got guys
from TPI doing presentations like
there's all kinds of things going on
here and shoes are such play such an
important role because one you got to be
comfortable cuz you're walking I don't
know how many miles when you play around
a golf even if you're just in a cart
you're still walking a lot they have to
be
comfortable but you try it's like
imagine Canadian reference imagine
skating without skates on ice with a
pair of shoes you can't do it right like
need the things to give you the right
amount of traction and we're seeing this
now with I saw the one of the the Adidas
shoe it's got some really cool spikes on
the outside I can't remember the model
name the new AI zero is it yeah that's
it I think it looks all so like even
ekko's new shoes the new H5 has really
different spikeless pattern that yeah
and you see this because it creates a
level of performance now look you can
put Mega huge spikes on a shoe and you
know it could give you a lot of
performance but it's not very comtable
to walk in right these companies have to
find a balance and the one thing that I
really thought was cool from TR inare
was they've got some more of like the
the chunky shoe style like Runner soft
softer midsole yeah but all of their
Tech in it yeah and not only that the
other thing that I really like as a
golfer who plays in this in the spring
and definitely tries to extend the
season as long as we possibly can I just
saw you post the it's like a high top
they got a high top waterproof shoe
those guys are Pacific Northwest they're
like we want this to be like you're
going abandoned we want this to be the
abandoned Sho you you you can wear it
all week it's going to be comfortable
it's going to keep your foot dry and uh
I don't think it's coming out tried that
a few years ago late summer thanks that
one looks cool yeah and their fall um
but it is coming it's something they're
excited about and when I it was like the
one thing that like I walked into the
booth and I was like whoa whoa whoa
what's this and I was like that looks
sick I golf in the winter I golf in like
this fall like it's rainy I'm all
weather like what is this thing and it
looks really cool cuz again you've seen
other options sometimes they have a
zipper and again like there's not good
or bad but I just think for golfish
we're looking for something that is a
sneaker style but offers a high top it's
a really cool shoot that's really really
cool okay so we're three and three like
all about you go get something else okay
um I think you said something about
irons you know what if I'm going to give
one to an iron I I want to go back to
CRA and say the 3D printed iron is like
really cool but I think in general the
one thing that we're seeing from a lot
of companies now is the actual expansion
of their iron line okay yeah right I
like we're sitting at the Muna Booth
like that's a great example we're like
we're roughly the same age and you know
back in the day it used to be you get
the blade you get like the smaller like
cavity back and then you get like the
big oversized one right that was kind of
the the game plan for a lot of the oems
now we're seeing at Le at minimum
there's four irons in the line yeah some
companies they got 5 some are at 6
because it's all about fitting yep right
and it kind of comes back to the the
technology conversation earlier when you
have something that is designed to fit
more golfers it's driving and I don't
think I don't think it's it's creating
any confusion with consumers but I think
the biggest thing is making sure that
that's what I'm trying to do is like
educate golfers on like what their
options are CU there's a lot of tweeners
right like yeah I could play a a 790
from tailor made I can play an apex from
Callaway I can play a hot metal from
Muno
well they don't have that anymore they
have the new Forge but like you could
play these like oversized chunkier irons
ZXI s from Stone like these things look
big better players are coming them into
their longer irons so how do we explain
how all of these things fit together MH
and what it does is at the end of the
day is it gives the golfer Choice thing
that I always find unusual is like you
hear from like the hardcore gear nuts
and they're like oh there's so many
options it's like oh why are they
releasing all these options there's so
many golfers there's so many golfers and
you have the op it's giving you the
option of choice yeah they're not trying
to overwhelm you like if you need more
spin in your longer irons get something
that's going to get the center gravity
lower and get that spin up right like
that is why they're there so take
advantage of them and I think just from
like a whole overarching perspective the
fact that there are arm more options
especially in the iron category where
people are trying to use them as scoring
clubs is a big win for everybody I think
so You' mentioned strick on and I I've
only ever hit their driver in Cleveland
wedges like in my new era of in my
testing era they were like when I went
to demo day I was like that's where I
wanted to go first cuz I know their
their new driver looks gorgeous I liked
how the the Mark I felt it's like even
in the shitty rain I hit I was able to
hit the the ZXI five the smaller one the
five so the Seven's the the like full
forg the five is the one with the fast
face on it but it still the forg body
but the smaller head would be seven was
that was the one and I hit the utility
iron okay oh my gosh and the driver like
that's kind of like on my list it's like
shon's lineup being able to hit more of
it I was I never hit a stck on I know
they have like cult fall people love
them the feel of them and even in the
rain and the cold like oh this felt
really good like it's Turf interaction
yeah so that's in my top five for sure
like that lineup of Srixon and even a
driver like guessing a shaft of Ventus
blue 6X like it was felt but it was like
man looks so good at like at a dress
there's the ls head and then the two
iron like not even you know shafts like
stiff Dynamic gold 115s and they the the
F oh the strickson lineup really really
impressed me being able to dive deeper
into it for the first time even if 20
minutes in the cold and the rain and
then obviously aesthetically it's so
nice but yeah for a bigger head it's
certainly yeah didn't feel like it it
felt as buttery as like a nice nice
blade felt so yeah that's in my top five
that's definitely in there for sure
what's your last one so my last one is
poweru okay ni yeah like I'm just so
when Ryan actually you first posted
something about poweru some months ago
and I messaged him like dude what cuz I
grew up at a military golf course in
Ottawa in the 90s in the back shop
cleaning clubs and there's a lot of
power built that would it started with
McGregor earlier this year I remember I
messed like what I used McGregor but I
remember powerbuilt heads and like just
good and bad like there was all gamuts
of powerbuilt stuff cuz they were one of
the bigger manufacturers back in the day
cleaning power bu golf clubs and then
when that popped up I was like wait what
not not so much the pmen the PR's cool
to me but like the atlas blade like
gorgeous and then you got a set so you
put me in contact with them so I've been
talking with them and like oh great
they're going to be here so then like I
just think everything about that to me
is very exciting I haven't hit the irons
I'm I'm thinking I'm going to get a set
they we'd like to build you a set to
test for everyone which is great but
there's just something about that like
the aesthetic The
Nostalgia that kind of I mean I'm 40 now
like I guess the Nostalgia is starting
to kick in on certain things but there's
something about
poweru uh that that makes this list the
top five not deep diving into like all
the tech of it or whatever I didn't get
to go they had an indoor thing I didn't
get to make it but that's in my list
like I'm I'm excited about it because
the Nostalgia the aesthetic I mean the
blade looks gorgeous and from what I've
heard they affordable they're affable
and they're like a club Builders kind of
Club so there there's option they're not
simply like a drop ship DTC like
pre-made you have one option lots of
those out there going name name and uh
and what you've had to say about when
you've hit them has me excited too so
they're in there so hopefully we see
power bill I get to test those irons for
everyone because I think it's it's a
little it's great it's it's the DTC
model but it's more bespoke yeah which
you you you don't see so much because a
couple dtc's have dominated and made it
seem that all DTC is this when all DTC
is not insert company name here you know
like there is bespoke there
is none maybe some R&D maybe some not
but there's
like a Nuance to it and it appeals to
the club Builder the fitter so I'm I'm
really excited I mean about what power
built is that they're back and what
they're doing that's that's my in my top
five for sure that that honestly that
kind of plays into my last my last
option here is like the idea of look
talk so much about on the front end of
tech I didn't mean to wrap it up on both
sides of this thing great we've got the
we didn't this the front side the front
side was Tech but this idea of like
Nostalgia yeah because for us the core I
mean yes the core golfer is still
probably a little bit older exuse a
little older um but for us as
Millennials we are the core group of
golfers you know moving into country
clubs moving into the area where like we
have a little maybe a little bit more
free time or moving into uh jobs that
allow us a little bit more flexibility
right and because of that we're seeing
to your point the idea of like brands
kind of focusing in on a lot of I walked
by now I don't think it's in the same
realm but just to like I saw a
Northwestern I was like what is that and
I was like wait entry level product
that's what they're that's what they're
there for they're they're they're cater
to Golfers who I think their slogan on
their sign was like for the imperfect
golfer yeah okay it's like game
improvement clubs very affordable golf
clubs and like again neat option but
like poweru is doing their Pimon stuff
with like limited edition stuff with
Trevor Larson and uh I thought they'd be
really
expensive I was shocked at how
inexpensive they were I was like oh
these are going to be $6 $700 cuz it's
wood and no like under 200 bucks and so
like you've got these options here from
golfers who are looking who maybe want
to do in the way I think about it is
like alternative golf right like I like
playing golf with Pimon I did it years
years ago and because of uh like like
Andy from the fried egg yeah he talked
about it I was like I never really
thought about like golf that way I've
got a bunch of this stuff kicking around
and it just like it kind of opens your
mind to like okay look we can bash
drivers all day long like that's really
fun but like let's like approach the
game some way times a little bit
differently so you've got these guys
like powerb you've got Titus has got 25
years of the prov1 they're talking about
that they're talking about oil can
finish on their wedges right I was like
saw that last week and I was like this
looks unbelievable it literally brings
me back to the time like I first bought
my like oil
200 Series vogi oil can wedges mauno is
leaning into
like they're kind all the old MPS and
like for me it's MP4 you if you were
like the when I was 13 14 years old like
the good Juniors had MP4 cuz of tiger
used that yeah too it's like they had
MP4s there's an mp14 head there I'm like
oh that's so cool so you've got these
like companies that are willing to like
look back at kind of their Heritage and
we're seeing with like Taylor May did it
with the the the the burner the the mini
driver right they kind of leaned into
that like old school Vibe and I think
the idea of these companies are getting
to the point now where they're a little
bit older that they can rely on some of
their like old cool logos callow's got
some stuff Ping's got some stuff like so
that's like so your number five would
kind of be like the Nostalgia pop the
nostalg I'm a wrestling fan so it's like
when people from The Attitude Era come
back the rock comes back and it's like
people go bananas because we watched
them when we were 17 or 16 you're like
I'm
yeah know your roll and shut your you
love it the Nostalgia pop so and that
and that's what I think it comes down to
and like clothing is obviously changing
up it's getting a little bit more like
laidback like so there's but that to me
is what I think is so cool about it
because like it allows us to still get
clubs if you want with technology yeah
that are you know they look cool they're
different right you even companies with
head covers space like I follow a few
like people like people are searching
older clubs yeah they want to play with
something like I I I used that 20 years
ago I want to find it again and play
with it if only we could get old balls
to compare it because then it's like a
true comparison but even videos
comparing a driver from 10 years ago to
this year so many people want the old
one to be like look it still performs
close enough so you don't have to get
the new stuff so it's like we have this
affinity for the past while still moving
forward like you said your first thing
is like Tech and moving forward and the
accessibility but it's almost like that
Nostalgia is like accessibility too yeah
yeah because if you're even if you're
get in a game and you're using hand me-
Downs that are old you actually don't
look my hand me downs were like wooden
cut down like cut down blades and prons
now instead of hand me- Downs is like
mid 2000s adjustable drivers it's like
sick like you can get a lot of good
value out of this and I think that's
that's where like it's cool to see that
but then again if you're a golfer who's
like looking for performance you can
find it with the technology that's to be
able today there you go those are the
almost 10 and we had a bit of overlap
like those are the coolest things that
we found at the PGA show so let me know
in the comments what are some of the
cool things you're excited about in 2025
Ryan awesome thanks for hanging out
follow Ryan he'll be linked down below
and uh yeah we'll see you in the next
video
