The right hedge can do so much more than make your garden look better.

In this video I show you options for every situation from low maintenance hedges that keep your garden private, hedges that reduce sound or the ideal habitat for wildlife.

ALAN IS USING:
Hedging Plants from Blue Diamond Garden Centres - https://rb.gy/0ehb4p
Outdoor dining set from Forest Garden - https://rb.gy/0ihsne
Box nematode (for preventing box moth and other pests) from Fothergills - https://rb.gy/rvkrp6
Tools from Spear and Jackson - https://rb.gy/6wl4lh

Here are the hedge options I would recommend for different situations:

Good for Privacy

Euonymus japonicus ‘Bravo’ - a variegated hedge with bright coloured leaves
Prunus Lusitania (Portugal laurel)
Prunus laureocerasus ‘Castlewellen’ (Cherry Laurel)
Eleagnus ebbingei

Good for Sound Suppression

Taxus Media (yew) - forms a dense hedge
Thuja Occidentalis ‘Brabant’ - also has a lovely fragrance
Griselinia Littoralis - good for privacy and sound plus is good hedge for coastal gardens.

Good for Willdlife
Berberis ‘Red Chief’ - berries for the birds, thorns to keep the dogs out!
Holly ‘Golden King’ - brilliant for birds as berries are in abundance

Flowers and Fragrance

Bay Tree - fragrant leaf when crushed and evergreen (plus good in food!)
Choisya ‘Sundance’ - acid colours, fragrant and evergreen
Viburnum tinus - fabulous white flowers and tyhen bronze berries

Good for Internal Hedges (low level)
Ilex Crenata - ‘Jenny’ - Box substitute, evergreen, small hedge
Euonymus ‘Green Spire’ - Box substitute, evergreen, dwarf hedge
Rosemary - evergreen fragrant small hedge and another one that's good for the kitchen!
