💬 Comment below: Which story had you the most shocked this week? Let’s talk about it!
Hey everyone and welcome back to another
episode of Riri's Weekly Tea. I hope you
all had an amazing Thanksgiving weekend.
I know I did. So, my family went all out
this year. I'm talking 60 people dancing
shots. It was a lot. It ended up being a
huge party and I had the best time as
you can probably tell from my voice. It
was chaotic, loud, and beautiful. Truly
my favorite kind of family gathering.
So, my family lives in San Diego. That's
where I spend every holiday. And this
year, my cousins from Arizona joined us
for Thanksgiving. So, my cousins and I
also went out on Friday night. And then
on Saturday night, it was my parents'
34th wedding anniversary. So, once
again, we went out with all the cousins
and uncles and aunts and my parents'
friends, and we had the best time. And
I'm not going to lie, when it comes to
the holidays, I really don't care about
posting on social media as much, even
though it is my full-time job. On any
other day, I'm posting a bunch of
YouTube shorts and Tik Toks and
Instagram reels all day long. But when
it comes to the holidays, I really just
like to be with my family and have fun
offline. With that being said, I wasn't
as tuned into the entertainment news
world this week. So, we're going to
switch up today's episode just a little
bit. Usually, I break down 10
entertainment news stories from this
week and give you my unfiltered thoughts
and opinions on them. But this week,
we're only going to talk about three.
But don't worry, there's more. Because
Thanksgiving just passed, I'm going to
give you seven pop culture moments from
this year that I'm genuinely grateful
for. Some are wholesome, some are
inspiring, and others are chaotic and
may surprise you. Basically, everything
we love on this channel. So, let's get
into the news from this week. Starting
with Robert Irwin winning Dancing with
the Stars. Well, technically that
happened last week, but you know what I
mean. I am so happy for Robert Irwin,
but I'm not going to lie, I thought Alex
was going to win. I know, I know. But
Robert was my second pick, so it was a
win-win situation for me either way.
Also, once again, I'm so sorry about my
voice. I sound like I smoke three packs
a day. This is just a result of having
too much fun. But this was my first year
watching Dancing with the Stars, and
honestly, I don't know why I waited so
long. I absolutely love this show. It's
so beautiful watching everyone evolve
throughout the show, especially Alex
Earl. You can tell the show definitely
changed her for the better. She really
found her true confidence and joy, and
it's been so inspiring to watch, and
that's one of the reasons why I was
rooting for her so hard. But shout out
to Robert. I mean, I love his story. I
love his family. It's so cool that his
sister also won the show so many years
ago. He definitely put in the work this
season and his win was welld deserved.
And I'm already excited to see who
they're going to cast for next season.
Okay, next story. I finally finished
watching All Her Fault on Peacock. And
oh my goodness, I did not see that
coming. This show had me in a chokeold,
but I was so busy throughout the past
few weeks just with holidays and family
stuff that it took me a while to finish.
It's a limited series with only eight
episodes and it keeps you guessing until
literally the last second. I really
loved the acting, the storyline, and the
writing of the show. Also, the pacing
was really great. It didn't feel too
slow or too fast. I hate when a show
feels like it's rushed, and that happens
a lot with limited series, but this one
is so wellmade. There is a twist, and
I'm obviously not going to give it away
in this video, but all I can say is I
did not see it coming at all. I
definitely recommend you watch All Her
Fault if you're looking for a new show
to binge watch. You could probably watch
it in one sitting. That's how good it
was. And the way that I judge a show is
by how often I'm reaching for my phone
while watching it. And let me tell you,
I did not have the urge to scroll, not
even one time, while watching the show.
Also, I don't want to give too much
away, but I love how they titled the
show All Her Fault. That's all I'm going
to say about that. If you've watched the
show, let me know your thoughts down
below. And lastly for this week,
Lionsgate invited me to an early
screening of The Housemaid. And oh my
god, probably one of the best movies
I've watched this year. First of all,
thank you so much Lionsgate for the
invitation. This was such an amazing
experience. And it wasn't just any
screening. The director of the film,
Paul Fig, was there. He directed some
amazing films like Bridesmaids and A
Simple Favor. They gave us these plates
before the screening started. And at one
point during the movie, we got to break
the plates on the ground. By the end of
it, the entire theater floor was covered
in plates. And I feel so bad for whoever
had to clean that up. This movie is
filled with shocks and twists and turns
and I'm someone who's read the book and
even I was surprised at certain moments
in the movie. It comes out on December
19th and I highly recommend that you
watch this film in the theater. Simba.
Okay, there were so many moments where
we were all just gasping and screaming
like it was crazy. I think Amanda
Cipherred stole the show. She was
absolutely amazing as Nina Winchester.
Simba wanted to be a part of this. And
listen, I'm not the biggest fan of
Sydney Sweeney, but she did her thing in
this movie. The housemmaid was so much
better than I thought it was going to
be, honestly, and I totally recommend
you watch it. Okay, and that is
literally all I have for the news
segment this week. Like I said, it was
Thanksgiving. The world was slow. I was
slow. But now, let's get into the fun
part. Here are seven pop culture moments
from this year that I am genuinely
thankful for. Let's get wholesome. Well,
wholesome adjacent. You ready, Simba?
I think he's ready. First up, we had
Kendrick Lamar performing at the Super
Bowl this year. See, his performance
wasn't just any performance. It was a
cultural reset. It was a statement. It
was so powerful, and I absolutely love
the conversation that it sparked
afterwards. See, that's the mark of real
artistry. And I think Kendrick Lamar
just does it so well. He came out there
with intention and didn't water anything
down. And it was really interesting
after the Super Bowl. There was
definitely a certain demographic of
people who didn't enjoy the performance
or frankly just didn't understand it,
but I loved it. It was one of those
performances where every time I watched
it, I noticed something different. And I
truly believe that he is just such an
amazing artist and I love his
storytelling. Listen, I mean, I'm a
Swifty. So, if there's one thing I enjoy
about an artist, it's their
storytelling, which is something that
Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar have in
common. So, that was definitely one of
my favorite Super Bowl performances
ever. And I'm thankful that Kendrick
went out there and did his thing.
Next, and this one's controversial, so
bear with me. This year, we saw the rise
of Le Boooos. And listen, I don't even
own one, but I love them based on
principle. They're cute. They're
harmless and whimsical, and the way that
they piss people off is honestly my
favorite part. Here's my thing. If you
don't like LeooBoos, great. No one is
forcing you to buy one. But the people
who genuinely get so pissed off whenever
they see a Lebu is kind of crazy. Like,
are you okay? I just really don't like
people who yuck other people's yum. Like
I said, if you don't like it, that's
fine. Don't get it. No one is forcing
you. But if someone wants to put a
little charm on their bag, why does that
piss you off so much? You're weird. And
don't get me started on the people who
are saying that they're demonic or evil.
Please go touch grass and let people
enjoy things. Every time I'm out in
public and I see someone with a liaboo,
it just makes me smile because I know
that they picked it out and they opened
it and they were hoping to get a certain
color and maybe they got the color they
wanted, maybe they didn't. But the whole
thing of it is just so cute. It's like
me being a Swifty and seeing people wear
Taylor merch in public. It's fun. So,
keep the Lebus coming or the Sunny
Angels or whatever you're into. I love
it. Another moment that I'm thankful for
this year is Charlie X getting married.
I am just obsessed. I love the pipeline
of party girl to wifey. You can be a 365
party girl and still be a lover girl at
the same time. I just love everything
that Charlie XCX getting married
represents. You can still be the fun
party girl and be a wife and your life
isn't over the second you put a ring on
it. like you can go out with your
friends, travel the world, go on an
international tour, hit the club, and
still be a wifey. I just hate when
society acts like because you get
married, your life is over. It should be
the total opposite of that. You should
continue having fun if you want to with
your husband. So, I just love that she
got married and it was so beautiful.
Another moment that I'm grateful for
that might make some of you roll your
eyes is the CEO getting exposed for
cheating at the Coldplay concert.
Listen, cheating is terrible. I'm not
grateful for that, obviously. Like, I've
been cheated on. Ew, I don't support
that. But what I do support and what I
am grateful for is the truth coming out.
Every woman or man deserves to know who
they married. And honestly, the more
that cheating gets exposed online, at
concerts, or anywhere, the better. Maybe
this will make people think twice before
being unfaithful. And obviously, I feel
bad for the wife that her husband got
exposed in such a public way, but in the
end, she's winning. The truth came out.
She left her cheating husband and I'm
proud of her. And I just think cheating
is so sadly normalized in our culture
and people should be embarrassed by it.
Bring back shame. Another pop culture
moment that I'm grateful for this year
is Vogue publishing an article titled,
"Is having a boyfriend embarrassing?"
This was an absolutely incredible
conversation starter. People saw the
title of this article and went
absolutely insane. But those same people
failed to actually read the article and
understand what it was saying, which is
basically that having a boyfriend is not
a flex unless he's actually a good man.
And that is so real. I could not agree
more. For way too long, women settled in
relationships and marriages just for the
sake of saying that they had someone,
even if he was the worst. But now, women
are more than okay with being single.
And I think that forces men to step up
and not just give the bare minimum like
they're used to doing. And obviously I'm
not talking about all men. This is a
very general topic, but the dialogue
around it is so needed. So ladies, no,
having a boyfriend is not embarrassing.
Unless he's a loser and you should dump
him. Another moment I am so grateful for
this year is Wicked. I just love the
message of this movie so much. People
are not just good or evil. We are all
shaped by circumstance, perception, and
misunderstanding. Alphaba wasn't evil.
She was just misunderstood. And I'm
someone who only really got onto the
wicked train last year when the first
movie came out, but I was so surprised
at how much it resonated with me and the
rest of the world. I absolutely loved
both movies, and even more so, I love
how much kids are enjoying them. The
story is just so important and
beautiful, and I think it sends a really
great message for everyone. And last but
not least, my absolute favorite pop
culture moment from this year that I am
so thankful for is Taylor Swift getting
engaged. This was a big year for the
Lover Girls. So Taylor Swift is living
proof that you can go through so much
heartbreak and even in the public eye,
you can be mocked, judged, be labeled as
the problem, and still find someone who
genuinely loves you so much. Her
engagement gave so many women hope,
especially women in their 30s who feel
so much pressure to settle. Taylor left
a six-year relationship in her 30s
because it ultimately wasn't right for
her. And then she found someone who
cherishes her so deeply. If that's not
the most inspiring love story, I don't
know what is. And again, as a Taylor
Swift fan, so many of us resonate with
all of the heartbreak she's been through
in her life. I mean, on her last album,
she was singing about how she felt like
dying. And now, look at her engaged in
love to a man who puts her on the
highest of pedestals that she deserves.
And isn't that what we all want? Oh my
god. I don't want to get emotional, but
truly, I am just so happy for her and
she's just such a great role model for
all of us. Just know if you are going
through it right now, if you're dealing
with heartbreak or loss, grief, whatever
it is, it will get better and you do
deserve the love that you crave.
And I'm speaking to myself as well as
anyone watching when I say that. And
that is it for this week's episode of
Riri's Weekly Tea. A short news cycle, a
long gratitude list, and some of my
opinions sprinkled in there. So, let me
know in the comment section which moment
you were most grateful for this year.
