Hi everyone, today I'm going to show you how to crochet this chunky ribbed beanie.
I'll be making the beanie in a size adult small but you can find the free written pattern linked
below in the description bar. It ranges from baby sizes all the way up to an adult large.
You will need super chunky yarn, all the yarn amounts for the different sizes are listed in
the blog post, a 7mm crochet hook, a darning needle and some scissors.
To begin, create a slip knot. Insert your crochet hook into the loop.
Chain 23. The foundation chain runs the length of the beanie, not the width.
Once you have 23 chains, we're going to start row 1
by slip stitching into the second chain from the hook. So insert your hook, yarn over and
pull through a loop. Slip stitch into the next 7 stitches. This forms the ribbed brim of your beanie.
Once you have 8 stitches in total, we're going to half double crochet.
To half double crochet, yarn over. Insert your hook into the chain. Yarn over, pull up a loop.
Yarn over, pull through 3. Half double crochet in each chain until you have 6 chains left in the row.
When you have 6 chains left in your row, slip stitch in each remaining chain.
This will be the top of your beanie. You'll have 34 stitches in total. Turn your work.
To start row 2, chain 1. We're now going to work into the back loops of the stitch.
Rotate your work so the tops of the stitches are facing you,
and only pick up the strand of yarn furthest away from you.
The chain 1 doesn't count as a stitch. We're going to back loop slip stitch in each stitch
until the last stitch of the row. Keep your slip stitches nice and loose. This will make
it easier to work into them in the next row. In the last stitch of the row, place a normal
slip stitch. You should have 34 stitches in total. Turn your work. For rows 3 and 4,
we're going to repeat row 2. So chain 1, and then back loop slip stitch until the last stitch of the
and turn your work. Repeat row 2 again for row 4. To start row 5, chain 1. Back loop slip stitch
into the first 8 stitches. Back loop half double crochet across until you have 6 stitches left in
the row. When you have 6 stitches left in the row, back loop slip stitch across. Slip stitch
in the last stitch of the row. You'll have 34 stitches in total. Turn your work. And now we're
going to repeat rows 2 to 5 until the end of row 72. Once you have 72 rows, fasten off. Fold your
beanie in half so that the wrong side is facing outwards. This is the side without ribbing.
Whip stitch the edges of the beanie together. Once you've sewn the edges of the beanie together,
we're going to sew the top closed. Sew the top is the end with fewer slip stitches. Whip stitch
loosely around the top edge of the beanie. After a few stitches, pull tight on your strand of yarn.
Repeat around the entire top edge of the beanie. When you're back at the point you started,
sew the remaining hole closed. Turn your beanie inside out so that the right side is facing you.
Sew on a pom-pom. Weave in all of your ends. And you've finished your chunky ribbed beanie.
