The Mid Engined Hatchback That Shouldn’t Have Existed
In the late 1990s, Renault was doing something most carmakers had long abandoned: making completely irrational decisions that resulted in genuinely exciting cars. It was the era of the Twingo, the Avantime, and the Vel Satis — a time when Renault’s design department seemed to be powered by strong coffee, mild insanity, and a complete disregard for commercial logic. Yet, among all the eccentric creations of that decade, none was quite as gloriously unhinged as the Renault Clio V6 — a hatchback that took a modest city car and shoved a big naturally aspirated V6 engine where the rear seats should have been.
