The Wampanoag are Native Americans who have lived in what is now Massachusetts and Rhode Island for thousands of years. They hunted, fished, and grew crops like corn, beans, and squash. In 1620, they helped the Pilgrims survive their first year by teaching them how to grow food and live on the land. The Wampanoag and the Pilgrims later shared a harvest feast, remembered as the First Thanksgiving.
