Hi, welcome. What's your name, please? Noel. Noel James. How old are you, Noel, if you don't mind me asking? 52.
And what do you do, Noel? I invigilate in schools.
What's that? When the kids are doing exams in schools and you sort of look after them, you know,
make sure they don't cheat and stuff. Yeah. If you'd have taken any O-Levels or A-Levels, Simon, you'd know that.
Are you with anyone today? Unfortunately, my girlfriend couldn't make it because she doesn't exist.
Well, look, good luck. Thank you very much.
Good evening, Blackpool.
My name is Noel. My full name is, in fact, Noel Wynne-James. That's right. I don't pronounce the in fact.
I'm glad you're laughing
because I've had a terrible day. You've cheered me up. Do you know, I was woken up at 4 a.m.
this morning. The phone rang. I thought, who's ringing me at this time? I picked the phone up.
Achoo! Down the line. Achoo! It was a cold caller at that time.
But as you can see, ladies and gentlemen, I brought my instrument with me tonight. I do hope you enjoy this next tune.
Thank you very much.
Now this is... Sorry, I just bring the guitar to keep it in shape, you see.
I don't know if you've seen one of these before. This is an old Welsh instrument. It's got a Welsh name. That's right.
It's called a bag and...
I am gonna play a tune for you, ladies and gentlemen. This is not an original tune. This is a cover.
He's good, isn't he? We like Noel.
And some of you may recognize it. Here we go.
It's a famous film from the 70s. It's the Elephant Man.
He offers some music, ladies and gentlemen.
Ba-ba, black sheep.
They got three bags full.
Sheep solo.
That's 12 bar blues.
David, you are a fantastic comedian. You totally deserve to be a household name. I'm gonna kick this off with a yes.
Thank you very much. I like you a lot. I mean, you're so stupid in the best way.
We need to see you again. It's a yes.
You're very silly and funny. Yes from me. Thank you, Amanda.
Noel, you know, like when you got it, you got it.
You had the audience in the palm of your hand and my three-year-old will get it as well, which is good. Noel, four yeses.
Thank you. Yes, Noel. Come here.
Thank you very much, ladies and gentlemen. Thank you.
Thank you so much.
Well, what a pleasure it is and also what a relief it is to be in this theatre tonight because when they initially told me
I was going to be in the Apollo. I thought we had to take a mission to the moon or something.
I mean, there's no atmosphere for comedy up there. Do you know what I mean? Are you well?
That's good because I tell you what, I'm Noel.
Noel James.
I'm Noel Wynne, Nicholas, Trevor Harris, Gwynne, Llan, St Mary's Church, Round the Oak Tree, Go Go Goffin, Carwyn, Ivion, John James.
I'm one of the big names on the comedy scene.
And for those of you who still don't know where my accent is from, it's from my mouth.
Let me tell you about my background. It's a brick wall.
It's a very tough background.
And that's no surprise. I was raised by dolphins.
Yeah.
Dolphins. When I look back, even today, I still sometimes think to myself, I think
That's not Welsh, by the way.
Because dolphins don't speak Welsh, only Wales.
Listen.
I come from a long line of comedians. You can still see them outside the job centre.
It's a very difficult job, comedian. Last week, I was so desperate for a laugh, I tried to eat some baked beans through my eyes.
I don't know, it wasn't funny at all.
In fact, I went blind. I'm joking. I could still see things, but only in hindsight.
I've done other jobs. I bet you wish I was doing one right now.
I used to work on a fish farm until the tractor sank.
We were all gutted. And then I was working in a bowling alley. That was a ten-pin job.
Until the strike.
For many years, I was a night packer. That's tricky work. Getting darkness into boxes.
And then selling it on the black market.
But when I was 17,
what I really wanted to be, I wanted to be Vincent van Gogh. So I took a year off.
I joined a circus. I was a trampolinist for six months. Well, 12 months on and off.
I was a very good ventriloquist, even if I make somebody else say so myself.
Of course, I am an impressionist, just like Vincent van Gogh. And last week,
I was so desperate for a laugh, I tried to impersonate a frog. See if you think this is funny.
Well, ladies and gentlemen, I'd like to finish my career now with...
With a funny impression. Why not? It's the semi-final. Come on!
But can I also just take this opportunity to say
thanks awfully to everyone.
Thanks.
Finally, here's my favourite actor. One of my favourite actors, ladies and gentlemen. It's Robert De Niro. Thank you.
I can't do the voice.
