It was meant to be - English Phrases

🎵 Grandma! Samantha! It's so good to see you. It's been too long. You can say that again. I think the last time I saw you was over three months ago. Well, come in. Make yourself at home. Here is your favorite pie. I made it just for you. Help yourself. Thanks, Grandma. I'll go tell Grandpa you're here. Samantha! You're taller every time I see you. It's good to see you, Grandpa. How's it going? Sorry, I didn't catch that. Grandpa's hearing hasn't been very good lately. You'll have to speak loudly. I said, how are you? Oh, fine. I can't complain. How is school going, Samantha? It's not half bad, actually. Well, my classes are boring, but school has gotten a little more interesting. I have a boyfriend. Good for you. Is that who you were texting? Yes. What is he like? He's really sweet and funny. I remember when your Grandma and I were dating. We were only a little older than you are now. Really? Please tell me about it. Your Grandpa was very charming. Your Grandma was one of a kind. Beautiful, intelligent, delicate. You name it. I'd had a crush on her since high school. But I kept my feelings for her bottled up for a long time. How come? Why didn't you just ask her out? Easier said than done. I had a hard time asking her out. For one thing, I was afraid she might reject me. She was so pretty, not to mention how popular and smart she was. And what's more, many guys wanted to date her. I didn't even know you liked me. There you go again, pretending that you didn't know. Let me put it this way. You never showed any interest in me before that night at the pizza place. You can't be serious. I tried to catch your eye many times, but you wouldn't even look at me. You played hard to get. I'd stand near your locker, hoping to get a chance to talk to you. Really? That's so romantic. Lots of boys would stand by my locker, for what it's worth. I tried to ignore them. Really? You mean you never noticed me? I don't remember seeing you there. Well, you'll just have to take my word for it. So what happened? How did you two meet? I'm all ears. Well, it was a short while after we graduated from high school. One night I went to the pizza place with my best friend Cindy. We came in, ordered our pizza and sat down. I was there to pick up a pizza for my mom, but it wasn't ready yet. I was so surprised to see your grandma there. The waiter brought the pizza, and I noticed it was not the pepperoni pizza I had ordered. So I went to the counter with it. Long story short, your grandma had been given my mother's pizza. The man called me to the counter when he realized his mistake. I finally had the chance to talk to your grandmother. You two fell in love because of a pizza? Did I get that right? Well, not right away. I think I gave him the evil eye at first. I thought he had mixed up the pizzas on purpose to try to talk to me. And I said... Nice try. No, there must be some confusion, I'm telling you. I'm afraid you've got it all wrong. It's my mistake, sorry for the confusion. I'll fix that right away. Oh, I see. It's okay then. I hope you can accept my apologies. Don't worry. No hard feelings. I'd like to make it up to you. Would you like to join us for dinner? The more, the merrier. I didn't tell them the pizza was supposed to be for my mother, so I accepted. And then you fell in love? Yes, we did. Take it from me, Samantha. It's worth waiting for the right person. For me, it was like it was meant to be. You took the words right out of my mouth. That night turned into something magical. My friend Cindy had to leave early. So your grandpa offered to drive me home. I had forgotten about getting a pizza for my mother. It had completely slipped my mind. All I could think about was your grandmother. I was head over heels in love with her. We drove around talking for hours. I knew from that moment on, I was going to marry your grandmother. As far as I was concerned, your grandpa was the most wonderful man in the world. You still seem to be in love with each other after all these years. You bet we are. We love and respect each other. Sometimes we get on each other's nerves, but we never hold a grudge against each other. We get over it. We talk things out and let it go. And last but not least, we enjoy spending time together, no matter what. Thanks for watching. If you liked this video, please subscribe to our YouTube channel.
