Oregon moved up one spot to 6th, while Ole Miss fell back one spot to the 7th in the latest college football playoff projections on Tuesday. There'll be one more projection released next week, before the final playoff brackets are announced on Dec. 7. -- 📺 Watch NTD News 24/7 on cable, broadcast, and streaming: https://www.ntd.com/watch
And now for your sports news, we're
joined by entities Dave Martin. Dave,
plenty going on right now, but let's
start in college football as the latest
playoff projections were released last
night. What stood out to you? you know,
is actually pretty similar to the last
one. Now, if we look at the projections
here, the big change really is that Miss
and Oregon flip-flopped the Miss 7,
Oregon 6. Last week, they were just at
the reverse there. Now, one thing to
watch for, I would say, who comes out of
the ACC. Now, Miami is number 11 here as
the lone representative right now, but
it doesn't look like they're actually
going to make the ACC championship game.
It looks like SMU and Virginia have the
best chance to make it. And whoever wins
likely gets that one of those automatic
bids as a conference champion despite be
still possibly being ranked behind
Miami. And that would probably kick
Miami out altogether because although
Tain is the final team ranked in here,
they're actually ranked number 24
overall, but they would be the fifth
highest ranked conference champion,
which would get that final automatic
bid. So Miami somehow needs to move up
in the rankings despite only having one
game left in the regular season. So even
though they're in right now, they they
need plenty of help to actually make the
playoffs here, too.
>> We'll keep an eye on that. Looking at
Olympic news, though, the torch relay
was started today for the 2026 Winter
Games in Italy, which begins next
period.
>> Yeah, they had a big ceremony today in
Olympia, Greece, where the Olympic Games
first started. Now they'll have a weekl
long relay in Greece before they hand it
over into Athens and then it will travel
the torch into Italy for the start of a
month's long relay there. Now newly
appointed IOC uh CEO President Kirsty
Coventry was there. Here's part of her
very emotional speech he gave.
And as we light the Olympic flame for
Milano Cortina, we will carry this light
from the past to the present and
continue it into the future.
These games come at a critical part
in our history.
Thank you. I wasn't supposed to get
emotional, but this place is very
special.
And it's so special because in a divided
world that we live in today,
the games hold a truly symbolic place.
And it's our duty. It's our
responsibility
to ensure that the athletes from around
the world can come together
peacefully
and that they can inspire the dreams and
hopes of those around the world that are
watching.
>> So the uh the winter games start on
February 6th. They will be hosted by
Milano and Cortina.
>> All right. All right, Walsh, fingers to
college basketball. A number of ranked
teams are in action today. Where do
things stand now?
>> Yeah, that players era festival uh
conducting uh concluding today in Las
Vegas already 15th ranked Iowa State
beat Syracuse there 7860. Also 20th
ranked Texas Tech beat New Orleans 82 to
50. And at the battle for Atlanta's 24th
ranked Vanderbilt beat Western Kentucky
8378. Now also at their players era
players era festival today in Vegas.
Third ranked Houston beat Notre Dame
6656.
Tonight at 7 PM we have the third place
game. The same venue in Las Vegas.
Seventh ranked ranked Tennessee faces
Kansas. The first place game follows
that one at 9:30 Eastern time. 7th
ranked Michigan versus 12th ranked
Gonzaga. Now the winners of these games
get a lot of money in NIL prizes here.
>> All right. Well, regarding this
tournament, the Players Era Festival CEO
told ESPN that organizers will consider
a different format for next year's
event. What do you think he's referring
to?
>> You know, there was plenty of confusion
about how they would choose, you know,
which teams made the championship game
and the third place game, which as we
discussed were for a lot of money. The
winner gets a million dollars in NIL
money. Now, basically, this is a
three-game tournament from each team.
first two games were known or advanced
in the final day today. The matchups
would be determined by margin of
victory, record, AP ranking,
head-to-head record, points scored,
points allowed through these first two
games. The result was the matchups
weren't announced until after midnight
last night, Eastern time. And then you
had a team like 15th ranked Iowa State
had two good ones. They beat St. John's
and Kraton, but it wasn't even enough to
get them into the third place game, let
alone the title game. Now, next year,
they're going to have 32 teams in this
event. So it could be a different format
there.
>> Going to be packed. Well, Davis always
thanks for joining us.
