I Was Too Harsh On This Anime - From Bureaucrat to Villainess Should You watch!?
From Bureaucrat to Villainess: Dad's Been Reincarnated!
Akuyaku Reijou Tensei Ojisan
So this was an anime that I honestly sat there and thought to myself,
eh this is probably not going to be that good, it's probably going to be meh,
like the whole idea of a guy, like a middle-aged working class dude being reincarnated again,
but this time as a female villainess. So I was like, okay so they're going with the villainess
story from the Otamu games, but now just mixing it as a gender swap, and I was like,
eh it's probably not going to be for me. And then after watching the first couple of episodes,
I was like, I felt like Thanos talking to my daughter, and just being like,
maybe I was too harsh on you. And that's how I felt, because I went into this,
I think probably a little bit on the negative nanny side, I was like,
I was kind of convinced of myself, and then I went into it, I was like, this is actually pretty
funny, this is actually pretty good what they're trying to do, and especially at the little spin
that they've added that I didn't mention, is that he's a father, which okay, it's not a big deal,
but how they integrate it in how he behaves towards all these other characters, particularly
the female protagonist in the sense of like the game female protagonist, not the female
protagonist of the story, he kind of like treats her like a daughter, like he's thinking like a
father, like, oh this situation's happening, why would this be the case? And then he's looking at
all his past actions of being a father, and being like, oh this is why. One of the reasons why I
like this, is because one of the issues that I have with a lot of isekais, is they're not isekais,
but they are isekais. So basically the first five minutes is them being reincarnated, and then you
never ever, ever, ever see anything about the reincarnation component ever again. And there's
one particular anime that I'm watching this season as well, that does this, and as much as I enjoy the
anime, and I'm going to do a video on it, I generally enjoy it, what it's offering for the
most part is like junk food, it does this very issue that I have, which is called I'm a noble on the brink
of ruin, so I might as well try mastery magic. And it does this issue that I hate, where the first
couple of minutes is, oh I'm a working class person, I died while working, or some other isekai
trope. Like again, it's not a bad thing that the tropes itself, but what the problem is, is that the
first couple of minutes is them going, yes I've been reincarnated, now I'm never going to ever
talk about my reincarnation ever again, and nothing about my past is ever going to have an impact
on my current step forward, and that's the end of it. They don't do this with this anime, which is
what I really, really, really love, because I get tired of that annoying trope, where the isekai
component is never brought up, but it's meant to be an isekai. It's used, and a lot of people be like,
well why do they do this? The reason why they do it, is because a lot of light novel authors,
they publish on a particular website, like a web novel website, and to get certain tags that do
more popular, like isekais are super popular on this website, so what they do is they ham-fist the
isekai component in, in the most watered down way possible, so they can put it in that tag,
so that it gets the viewership from the web novel section of the website. As much as yes,
from a bureaucrat to a villainous dad's being reincarnated is an isekai, it does it in a very
creative way, but it doesn't ignore its isekai roots. It actually relishes in that, that the
fact that he is and was a father from a past life, using his father's knowledge to help these
individuals, or also help him get through life. I like that. I think it's good. I wish more animes
and light novels and mangas and whatever do this, instead of trying to water it down of that first
three minutes of an introduction of an isekai, and never spoken about again. I know, I'm whining,
but it's annoying. So that's one of the first things that I really loved about it, and the
fact that it's very creative in how it does its animations, where you kind of see them kind of
parallel to each other. Opening closing song is super funny in just kind of the animations itself.
The song, I don't even remember, but the animations is just what stands out because of what it tries
to do. It does recap a little bit in some of the episodes, which I'm not the biggest fan of recaps.
I'll let it pass on this, just because at least it's acknowledging the isekai component on the
recaps. I'm like, cool, whatever, I'll dig it. The other thing though too is, and I thought this
was very interesting, is that the father doesn't actually play otame games. He just knows it's an
otame game because his daughter plays it. So I thought that was interesting, because at the start
I was like, wait, how does he know nothing about otame games, but knows it's an otame game? And
then it's like, oh, his daughter plays them. And then I was like, this is actually starting to be
quite clever, because he doesn't have heaps of knowledge of the game, but he has some basic
knowledge to know a general idea, so he's kind of going in a little bit blind. That's also creative,
because it means that it isn't one of those where it's like, oh, I've been reincarnated in an otame
game that I played, so I know everything about the game. Which is more funny because I've been
reading the light novel series on that kind of concept, but then they kind of spin it up a little
bit more differently by having expansions that the main protagonist hasn't played. So how they go
about this in different unique ways, I absolutely love. I think it's very, very good. But the
foundational components of this is very much there. Female protagonist Kane character, with a
bunch of male guys that are interested kind of thing, and I can see that this is kind of going
to reverse. I can kind of see from the opening song where the story is going to kind of go, that
the main male characters of the otame game are going to kind of fall for her, and the female
protagonist of the game is also going to fall for her as well. And so it's going to be kind of this
like, double harem of like, a mix of harem of female and male characters, but also like bystanding
observers that are like gushing over her. So I think it's going to be kind of like that, but just
it reminds me of My Next Life as a Villainess, or Last Rage of Doom. Kind of like that, but
the main female protagonist of the entire story is in fact reincarnated as a male.
It is interesting in that sense, but it also makes the romance a little bit
weird, but kind of curious to see where they're going to go in that. Because
is he, that's now a she, going to be interested in the guys? Or is he, that's now a she,
going to be interested in the chick? Or are they going to try completely avoid any romance,
and try and force the main female protagonist of the game with the other guys? Which seems to be
the case based on the opening song. So I think that's where they're going to go down, but I feel
like they're going to try and do that, try and keep the game on track, but instead everyone's
going to fall for them. So it's going to turn into the villainous kind of story. I think that's how
it's probably going to go. Which, like I said, I loved My Next Life as a Villainess, or Last Rage
of Doom. So this is a cool way of doing that kind of story, but with a unique spin that doesn't feel
formulaic. Because every anime season we're getting a lot of Otamu games now. Which is, well,
Otamu isekais, which is more funny because when you look back over the years, you had all these
videos from like Giga and all that being like, oh yeah, there's too many isekais out there, let's
make the same joke every three months. And they made it every year, which I'm like, okay, cool.
But now we're getting a massive saturation of Otamu isekais, like very much more specific.
And that's what happens. The trends move over the years, and as they move, the audience, well,
it's like a supply and demand. Where the audience moves, the writers generally write a lot of stories
about them. Some are good, some feel unique and interesting and feel like there's passion in it.
Some just feel like watered down rubbish that they're just trying to make a quick buck from.
This does not feel like the later, it feels like the earlier part of a lot of interesting passion
and unique ideas shoved into a really cool isekai Otamu game. But one of the things that
I also do know from my time on the internet is some people do not like female protagonists.
So some people are going to go, well, I can't insert myself into this because it's a female
character and I'm the male, which is why I find it more funny because a lot of people don't actually
think it's self inserts are a thing in the male audience. Yeah, they are. So I do feel like some
people are going to probably skip this anime because of that very component that it is a
female protagonist, which is disappointing because I actually think it's a really fun and unique way
of, again, doing the whole comedy fantasy school villainous kind of style isekai kind of thing.
If you, if you're willing to give it a try, give it a try. But when I look at things like live
charts, it's very much down at the bottom of the charts. Like not as many people seem to be as
interested in it. More people seem to be interested in the generic kind of copy paste.
I'm a noble on the brink of ruin kind of thing. Like I've been watching that. I don't like,
again, I'm just stating the obvious that it is one of those copy paste junk food things.
Nothing wrong with that, but I'm just acknowledging that that's what it's trying to go for.
So it's kind of sad because I think what it's trying to do is very good. And I would highly
recommend it for those that just want something with a little bit of a unique spin. It will be
hit and miss. I don't expect this to do well on the channel because of what it's inherently
designed as. So again, I'd love to know your thoughts in the comment section down below.
Have you watched from a bureaucrat to a villainous dad's being reincarnated?
And what are your general thoughts? Do you like it? Do you dislike it? Any or all thoughts are
definitely welcome, but keep it civil, keep it chill. And again, if you like this video,
