Switzerland in just five days might sound ambitious, but if done right...
Switzerland in just five days? Yes, it's possible, and we did it. From Zurich to the Alps,
here's our full itinerary and top tips to help you plan your dream trip without breaking the bank.
Welcome to Travel Eyes, let's go. Day one, Zurich. Lakes, old town, and sweet starts.
Starts from Zurich. First one on our list was Lake Zurich. You can board one of the public ferries.
It's part of the local transport, but feels like a mini cruise. Watch sailboats drift by,
swans glide under bridges, a perfect first breath of Swiss air. From there,
stroll into the old town known as Altstadt. Cobblestone streets, hidden fountains,
and little boutiques. It's all walkable. Before the day ends, stop at the Lindt Home of Chocolate,
just 20 minutes outside the city. You'll walk through chocolate history
and finish with an all-you-can-eat tasting room. Yes, it's real. Day two, Lucerne and Mount Rigi.
Bridges to the sky. Take a morning train to Lucerne. It's less than an hour. Your first stop,
the Chapel Bridge, with paintings from the 1600s right under your feet. Then walk along the lake
past towers, murals, and fountains. By noon, take a boat across Lake Lucerne to Witznau.
From there, hop on the cogwheel train up Mount Rigi, the queen of the mountains. If you're lucky
with weather, the view stretches over 13 lakes. Coming down, take the cable car to Weggis for a
view. Gentle, quiet, and perfect for golden hour. Day three, Lucerne to Interlaken. Waterfalls and
alpine villages. Today's ride, Lucerne to Interlaken. This stretch is famously scenic,
especially the part near Lake Brienz where turquoise water hugs the train tracks.
In Interlaken, you're nestled between two lakes, but it's the mountains that steal the show.
Rent a bike or stroll down to Staubach Falls in Lauterbrunnen. It literally pours off a cliff.
Want something extra? Add a detour to Grindelwald, an alpine village with postcard perfect views.
And if you're feeling adventurous, ride the first cliff walk or take a cable car for sky-high
valley views. Day four, Zermatt, the Matterhorn's silent majesty. Zermatt is car-free, quiet,
and completely surrounded by mountains. You'll take a train here, it's part of the charm.
Walk the wooden alleys, then ride the Gornergrat railway for the best view of the Matterhorn.
It's not just a mountain, it's a moment. It stands alone and somehow makes everything around it feel
still. On your final day, head back to Zürich or your next stop. Sip a coffee by the window,
watch the mountains fade into valleys, and let the journey settle in.
