PAÁL LÁSZLÓ ZÁM, 1846-1879, CHARENTON Painter. One of the best-known Hungarian landscape painters of the 19th century. His first master was Pál Böhm. He began his art studies at the Vienna Academy in 1864, his master was Zimmermann. He visited the Netherlands on a study trip, where he studied the works of the 17th-century masters. At the invitation of his friend, Mihály Munkácsy, he went to Düsseldorf, then moved to France, settling in Barbizon. Following the Barbizon artists, he also painted nature. After his death, his estate was auctioned in Paris. His paintings reached Hungary in 1902, when the Hungarian public was able to see his paintings at a collective exhibition. His works can be found in the collection of the Hungarian National Gallery.
