Violinist Renaud Capuçon plays Jean de Florette from Jean-Claude Petit’s score from the film of the same name. The evocative wistful melody draws heavily from Verdi’s La Forza del Destino. This track is one of 19 much-loved tracks from French cinema that form part of the violinist’s second volume celebrating French film composers, entitled Les Choses de la Vie.

Renaud Capuçon says of the selected tracks, “There’s a great tradition of film music among French composers,” explains Renaud Capuçon. “Each has their own personality, their own style. The music of Alexandre Desplat or Jean-Claude Petit has nothing in common with that of Gabriel Yared or François de Roubaix, but all these titles have a typically French touch and charm.”
