The electron transport chain is the final stage of aerobic respiration, which takes place in the inner mitochondrial membrane. Electrons from NADH and FADH₂ are transferred through several protein complexes, releasing energy from the proton pump. The proton flow creates ATP via ATP synthase, while oxygen accepts electrons to form water.
