Mattie Pruitt’s Stunning "Wide Awake" by Katy Perry – American Idol

I was in the dark and I was falling hard with an open heart. How did I read the stars so wrong? Now it's clear to me that everything you see ain't what it always seems. Yeah, I was dreaming for so long. I wish I knew then what I know now. Wouldn't dive in, wouldn't bow down. But you made it so sweet till I woke up hard on the concrete. Falling from cloud nine. Crashing from the high. I'm not alright. Oh my god. Falling from cloud nine. My soul's crumbling. I am trying to hold up. God knows that I tried seeing the bright side. You're so good. I'm honored just to kind of be along for the ride here with you, Maddie. You know, you take a song and you make it your own. I mean, that's an iconic monster of a song. And you really did. You made it your own. And you gave us a fresh take on it. And it was just beautiful. Like I said, I'm just honored to be here on your journey with you. Thank you. Wow, wow. I mean, you know when you walk out on stage and you go, oh, there's little Maddie. Oh my gosh, she's 15 years old. That's so nice. Then all of a sudden you open your mouth and you don't sound like little Maddie anymore. You have a growl in your voice that's so senior, that's so identifiable to you. And I'm telling you, if this is how you start your career, oh my God, the future is yours. Thank you. You're 15. I mean, we're throwing a lot of stuff at you to be 15. You're in Hawaii. I mean, you live in Eagleville, which is like 20 minutes from my house. Listen, just get in that rock star mode. Get in what you see Carrie Underwood do when she gets on stage. Bring the goods. You're 15. You don't know all that stuff yet, but you're going to need to know it because you're going to be there one day very soon too. There you go. Thank you.
