This night is like no other night.
It is a time to dream and sit in a place like no other.
In the center of the village of Bedlam is a small village.
On this night it is overflowing with people,
seeking a place to eat and sleep.
Behind the inn is a dark stadium,
all still and quiet in the early town of Bedlam.
As night gathers, the last two travelers come slowly on the road.
Look, there is a young woman about to meet her mother.
She is walking with her husband.
They are Joseph and Mary from Nazareth.
They have walked for six days to come to the city of Bedlam.
It is late, and Mary is so tired.
Where will they sleep?
But the innkeeper says they can stay in the stable.
So that is where they finally decide to rest.
And there in the stable, in a manger,
the Savior baby Jesus is born.
In the hills outside of Bedlam,
shepherds watch their flocks.
All at once, the dark has lost the light,
and in the middle of the night,
something brighter, the faces of angels.
The shepherds are afraid,
but then they hear music in the sky,
and a voice clearly says,
Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace and goodwill to all people everywhere.
Do not be afraid.
Listen, I bring you news of great joy,
the joy to be shared by all people.
Today, in Bedlam, the Savior is born.
He is Christ, the Lord.
Three camels trod up the road to Bethlehem.
They had come from the east,
far beyond the great wilderness,
maybe from as far as the Caspian Sea.
The camels carried wise things.
They are following the great star,
a star they knew was leading them to something special.
They offered news and gave him bright gold,
sweet-scented roses,
and given him gifts.
Gifts they brought,
but let us come,
as we bring our own gifts to this child,
not giving our own.
Come, let us offer our own gifts.
