Automated Machine Tending for CNC grinding machines

In any cam grinding operation, achieving the perfect cam profile demands precision. That's where the carrier block comes in. It firmly holds the camshaft in place, ensuring the exact profile is achieved every single time. Traditionally, this is done manually. Operators carefully lock the carrier block to the shaft with tight tolerances before loading it for grinding. But what if this entire process could be automated? At Strategy Automation, we've turned that idea into reality. Our latest robot-based machine tending solution is designed for bearing and cam grinding CNC machines, integrated seamlessly into our gantry line. The output from the gantry moves to an indexing conveyor, which then feeds the robot, setting the stage for fully automated tending solution. The FANUC six-axis robot picks a turned part from the conveyor and feeds it into the bearing grinding machine. Once the grinding cycle completes and the door opens, the robot removes the finished component, loads a fresh part, and signals the CNC to start again. Smooth, repeatable, and efficient. Once this is over, robot will move to carrier block adding station, where it will pick a carrier block added part and drop this bearing grinding finished part to get added with carrier block. Post this process, robot will make auto unloading and loading cycle in cam grinding machine. Here, the precise movement is achieved easily in tight spaces. Thanks to its flexible six degrees of freedom. When the cam grinding cycle finishes, the robot unloads the part and returns to the carrier block station. There, a gripping setup with a three-jaw mechanism holds the carrier block securely while a power screwdriver loosens the slit lock, separating the part from the block with precision. On the other side, a new part from the bearing grinder is aligned and positioned to match the drive pin inside the carrier block. The screwdriver then secures it again at a preset torque, ready for the next cam grinding operation. This continuous cycle of intelligent movement, alignment, and control dramatically cuts down human fatigue, enhances repeatability, and boosts production efficiency.
