MARGOT ROBBIE and CHARLIZE THERON on the danger ambitious women faces

I saw that both of you brought your mums to the Oscars once. What was that experience like, and would you do that again? I think my mum's gone to every Oscar with me. It's become our date night. There are so many mums at the Oscars. Honestly, it's kind of a thing to do. Yes, bring your mum. Bring your mum. You actually get to meet everyone's mums at the Oscars. You don't just meet people, actors that you admire. You meet their mums as well at the time. It's really nice. Yes, it really has become like my mum is now kind of co-parenting with me. So, she's really, she's like my other half that when I do have an event, she kind of takes over. But that is the one night that she's like, okay. And I'm like, all right, we're going on a date. Get your diamonds ready. Do you think it starts with her? Yeah, yes. My mum was so funny. My mum actually didn't know who most people were, but there were people she did. She actually went straight, she was talking to Nicole at the Oscars and I like hissed at her to stop. And then she was like, Nicole, talk to me first. She had, Nicole was so nice. She asked someone what my mum's name was, so she could ask her how she was. And they can be like, hey, that's, yeah, she's just the sweetest. That must be the nicest thing to do. Yes. Yeah. I was just telling Margot that I watched the movie twice. Oh my gosh. First time I was so emotional and I just, I couldn't talk afterwards. It was like, so well done. So, thank you guys for making this movie. It's nice. Thank you. So, I mean, have you guys ever, because I feel like the experience of these women that they're ambitious, but they're like that ambition is being used against them somehow. So, I mean, I'm sure that you have experienced something in the greater that. Can you talk a little bit about that? Yeah, for sure. And it was really something that I had to kind of come to that conclusion through the research that I did of Megyn Kelly, because I very ignorantly thought that I had not that much in common with her. And I think that's the one thing that I share with her. And I didn't really fully understand that until I really dug deep into her and what she experienced. I really relate to a character who is ambitious, who has drive, who will work harder than anybody and doesn't want anything to kind of like blow up in her face. And to have all of those qualities be turned around and weaponized against you is something that I've definitely experienced. And I think Megyn is a great character to showcase that. I think the experience that she had at the Republican debate and how she kind of went after Trump and how all of that was kind of turned around on her from Fox to eventually go back and growl for an apology because she needed to interview him again. All of those things are things that I've definitely seen firsthand, experienced firsthand. It's so unfortunate that the things that we celebrate in men are not necessarily always celebrated in women. Sometimes can be the most dangerous thing that a woman can have. Yeah, no, and I think the character I play, Kayla, is in a different situation and place in her career than Megyn. And I think that's, yeah, part of the reason why she doesn't have the same political clout as Gretchen and Megyn do at the time. And I think it only adds to the divide that they initially feel, like why she, I think she's frustrated that Megyn didn't come forward until she did.
