Teacher Awarded $10 Million After Classroom Shooting

A jury has awarded Abby Zwerner $10 million after a 6-year-old student shot her in class at Richneck Elementary School in Newport News, Virginia, back in 2023. The court found the assistant principal, Ebony Parker, grossly negligent, despite repeated warnings from staff that throughout the day that the student had a gun. Zwerner was seriously wounded with the bullet passing through her hand and lodging in her chest.
