Horses by artist Persis Clayton Weyers

Horses by artist Persis Clayton Weirs. Renowned animal artist Persis Clayton Weirs was born and raised on an island off the coast of Maine. She still lives on the picturesque New England coast. These areas are renowned for their lush, often untouched, nature. Maine is often called the "Pine Tree State." Perhaps this explains why Persis's primary subjects are beautiful landscapes and a variety of wild and domestic animals. Her collection includes horses, cats, dogs, birds, wolves, deer, bears, and more.
Persis has no formal art training; she learned to draw by observing nature and animals. She became famous at the age of 23 after painting several "portraits" of a horse race winner.
The artist continues to work actively. In recent years, she has created dozens of paintings and illustrated several children's books. Her works are in private collections around the world.
