Ruyi’s royal love 014: Drown? The cause of death of empress Xiaoxian
In Ruyi's royal love, the Empress Xiaoxian accompanied Qianlong to visit Shandong.
On the way home, Xiaoxian falls into the water by accident.
Xiaoxian's imperial maid see what happens, but she doesn't call for help,
which cause Xiaoxian doesn't be saved on time. Later, Xiaoxian passed away on the boat.
Is this true in a real history? In Qing official documents, no records about the cause of death
So, there are several versions about Xiaoxian's death. For example, on the eastern tour,
Qianlong gets many beauties, likes one girl very much, and decides to bring her to the Forbidden
Xiaoxian believes Qianlong's decision seamlessly violates the inner court rules.
So, Xiaoxian argues with Qianlong. Then, Xiaoxian suicides by falling into the river.
Do you hear a similar story before? Yes, in Qianlong's step-empress video.
So, I don't think this version is reasonable.
The second version, Qianlong has physical relationships with Fuheng's wife,
who is Xiaoxian's sister-in-law. Xiaoxian finds their relationship and cannot accept it.
Later, Xiaoxian passed away. The third version, Xiaoxian passed away
because of sickness. Personally, I believe this version. First of all, Xiaoxian did pass away
on a boat. After Qianlong came back to Beijing from the eastern tour, he collected everything
about Xiaoxian. So, he required send this boat to Beijing. But the boat was too big to pass the
gate. Qianlong let workers destroy a part of wall. Then the boat could come in. Second, I don't
think Xiaoxian wanted to suicide. In Ruyi's Royal Love episode 37, Xiaoxian mentions
Qianlong and she worship Bixia Yuanjun. The consort Xian says Bixia Yuanjun can bless people
have good health. In real history, on this tour, Qianlong and Xiaoxian did worship Bixia Yuanjun
on mountain top. Bixia Yuanjun is a goddess in tourism. Ancient Chinese believe she can give
family a kid and bless kids to healthily grow up. In other words, Xiaoxian begs the goddess
to give her another kid, not bless her health. Qing royal family members believe Buddhism.
Qianlong hates tourism very much. Several days after Yongzheng passed away, Qianlong kicks all
Yongzheng's toys out from the old summer palace. So, it's more reasonable that Xiaoxian wants to
Qianlong just accompanies her. If Xiaoxian has planned to suicide, no need to worship Bixia Yuanjun.
Before they took the eastern tour, Xiaoxian just lost her second son.
Qing emperors didn't follow the rule that the emperor's son had absolute priority in inheriting
the throne. Shunzhi, Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong, none of them were born to the emperors.
Theoretically, Xiaoxian shouldn't have very high pressure on giving birth a son.
Unfortunately, although Qianlong was born to a concubine, he extremely wanted to promote the
emperor's son as the crown prince. This gives Xiaoxian huge pressure. So, when I read the records
about Xiaoxian and Bixia Yuanjun, I feel so sorry for her. I see a desperate mother
begged a goddess to give her a miracle. In Rui's royal love, Qianlong's first eastern tour
happens in summer. In real history, it happened in March, two months after Xiaoxian lost her second
son. This tour wasn't a true vacation. According to the historical documents, there were many
activities in this tour. For example, Xiaoxian accompanied the Empress Dowager Chongqing to
visit Kong Miao. Today, we can just take a look and leave. Well, in ancient time,
worshipping Hongzi was very serious. There was a series of process. Xiaoxian had no chance
to truly relax. On the way home, Xiaoxian was sick. In official historical documents,
the sickness is Hanji. In ancient China, Hanji included flu, cold, and other similar diseases.
Because in ancient time, there wasn't antibiotics, Hanji was a very common reason
to cause people's death. According to Qianlong's description, Xiaoxian was just slightly sick.
After resting several days, she felt much much better. Xiaoxian worried people waiting too long.
So, she persuaded Qianlong to come back. Qianlong thought Xiaoxian was recovered and decided
to come back. Unfortunately, Xiaoxian suddenly passed away. In Qianlong's description,
he used the word bianbu, which means accident, not bingu, which means bad because of sickness.
So, many people believed sickness wasn't the reason cause Xiaoxian's death.
In my opinion, from Qianlong's perspective, Xiaoxian's death was an accident.
Because Xiaoxian told him she was almost recovered and he believed it, I think Xiaoxian lied.
First, the pain of losing a kid cannot be easily healed. Second, the activities in the tours
made Xiaoxian exhausted. Third, in spring, people was easy to get sick.
When those reasons combined together, I guess Xiaoxian was seriously sick. That's why Qianlong
decided to stay in Jinan for a while. I think Xiaoxian was eager to come back for several reasons.
First, Qianlong didn't come back on time, maybe have political risks. Second, a large group of
people staying in Jinan increased local people's burden. Third, Xiaoxian felt she would die soon.
She wanted to pass away at home. Thank you for watching this video. See you soon.
