We've got yet another really rare and wonderful little set, a four-piece set of china made by
Samuel Bridgewood. The pattern is Grecian, it's in this turquoise blue, absolutely gorgeous,
and this little sauce terrine is just delightful. Let's show you over this piece. That's how it
sits and how it displays. A rectangular piece really, but a curved rectangle, they didn't just
knock them out in rectangles. These pieces have all the beauty of moulded lids and handles. Just
look at this one, this little sort of floral design on a flat in the centre of this rotated,
twisted handle, and then gilt all the way around on this sort of quite Art Nouveau-y design, isn't
it? With a little recess for this wonderful sauce label. Again, they went to all the trouble of
decorating both the bowl and the handle. Absolutely gorgeous piece of earthenware,
antique Bridgewood china, and that sits in this little sauce here, or sauce terrine.
It's the same rectangle, but look at that, squished in on both long angles and rotated out on this
twin-handled outer walls, and again, little pedestal foot, gadrooning all around the rims.
Look at this lovely pattern of wear. I mean, people quite often say, how do I know if something's old?
It's genuine, it's got some age. Usually you've just got to turn it over and have a good look and
see what it's worn, and that is the sign of this having gone through a very good and long life.
Condition note on this one little handle, on this one piece, it's just got on this underside here,
just little nicks, a tiny little nick, can you see that? It's not really visible from the surface,
doesn't in any way detract from the overall appearance of the set, and then it all sits on
this beautiful little terrine saucer plate, no central well, so it does just sit on there,
but again, beautifully moulded, no marks or anything on this china, so you may well say,
well, how do we attribute this to Bridgewood, Samuel Bridgewood, and the pattern being Grecian?
Well, lucky for us, we know this pattern, we've had some flatware pieces with partial Grecian or
Gredian. It was spelt in a variety of ways over the period of manufacture, so it's a pattern that
is referred to both as Grecian and Gredian, or Gredian, with a D instead of a C in the Grecian
spelling, and it's absolutely wonderful, part of a large dinner service. Dates are all on the
website, measurements and sizes are all on the website, I hope we've given you a real good feel
for the quality and condition of this beautiful little antique set, as rare as hen's teeth,
as I always say, finding these anywhere, this is where the internet really comes in for
international buyers of these pieces, who are looking for them, and you know, they'll be
somewhere. I've just spotted another little condition note on this, again, another little
nick just here on the base, the little, just on that corner. It's always useful to go over these
really, really carefully, and sometimes when we're videoing these, things come up in the light box
that we don't necessarily see straight on the photographic or first examination of these pieces,
so all those condition notes will be considered in the listing. It's a fine piece, I just love it,
and Grecian, if it's to your taste and you're looking for something authentically Old English,
then this is a lovely choice for you to make. Description link below will take you through to
the website, do have a search through when you get there on Samson Bridgewood, Grecian pattern,
should bring up all the various pieces that we've currently got available on catalogue.
Thanks for watching.
