Hello you and welcome back to my channel. Today I just wanted to film a quick little video on
styling sweater dresses. I've mentioned these so many times, how much I love them, how easy
they are to style and how great they are to layer throughout the colder months as well,
so I wanted to give you some examples of that and I have two quite different dresses to show you to
give you options. So the one I have on right now as you can see it's quite wide, really really cozy
and super easy to layer warmer stuff underneath it and then I also have a much more sort of slim
fit type of thing. I just find that I style them quite differently so I want to show you some
outfits with both of these. I'm going to start with the wider one. I'm just going to go into
the first outfit for styling this and I'm going to apologize for the light that will inevitably be
shifting. The sun is setting and lighting right now during the darker months it's just, it's just
so impossible to deal with so I'm sorry about that. I'm gonna get started styling the first
outfit. As always hit the thumbs up button if you like this video, find it helpful, it really helps
me out and subscribe and hit the little bell icon to see more styling videos like this. I'll also
link my Instagram down below if you want to go and be Instagram friends. Check out some outfit
pictures there. I'll link things down below in the comment section but as I always say in these
videos these are not meant to be a sort of run out and shop an entirely new outfit. It is meant
to give you inspiration for how you can style pieces that you probably already have in your
closet or something similar. These are definitely much more ideas than you having to straight copy
them so if you have any questions leave them down below I'll try to answer. It's about getting as
much as we can out of our already existing wardrobes. With that let's get started. One of my
absolute go-to's when it comes to styling a wider sweater dress is to add a belt. It just cinches in
in the waist, it makes it a little bit easier to style, it gives it some shape especially because
this one is hitting me at like around the knees so when it's such a large shape it can very quickly
sort of overwhelm my frame and I just find it a lot easier to add accessories and to style it
and wear it in general when it has a little bit of shape. Here I also added these wide knee high
boots. I've talked about these, I've shown them so much. A boot like this is so great for wearing
with sweatshirt dresses because obviously it's covering up a lot of your leg. Also as you can see
I'm adding just a printed scarf. When I'm just layering it like this and letting it hang sort of
long I think it just helps elongate my body as well. If it is colder obviously I will sort of
bundle up in it a little bit. Sometimes I'll just take this belt and layer it over my coat
so I'm only wearing one belt. All right outfit number two and this is as much colour as I got
in this outfit but I want to show you these over the knee boots that are so great for wearing with
sweatshirt dresses. That is probably one of my sort of go-to pieces whether I'm wearing a long
or a short sweatshirt dress. Obviously these have a very high heel. I don't think that's necessary.
It's more about it being so incredibly tight to the body which works so well when the dress is
more oversized so it's just pinching in and sort of balancing out the outfit. This belt right here
you can do this many different ways but I want to show you that you can actually shorten the length
of a sweater dress like this as well. I just put it in my waist like this and then I just slightly
pull it up all the way around and then it will naturally just fall over the belt so you still
have that very sort of oversized look. It's not cinching in in the waist but you have raised the
hemline a little bit. You can kind of see a divide. Sometimes it can look like you're wearing a two
piece but everything is obviously in the same colour and I just love having options essentially
so sometimes I do want the hemline up a little bit. I paired this outfit with my leather jacket
which I've talked about so many times. Love that piece to death so that should be no surprise and
I just love that it's creating a bit more edge. So as you can see I wanted to dress up this dress
a little bit so I wanted to add some lace. Originally I wanted to have a like a lace bralette
that could sort of just pop out of this cleavage a little bit. I tried one on. I have it on but it's
far too low cut to be visible so was a little bit sad about that but I added some lace tights
instead. As you can see here I haven't belted the dress here. I haven't sort of
tried to cinch in the waist whatsoever so for me it's very key to have like
folding this up and having my wrists out I think really helps balance out the shape but obviously
also having some tights and some sort of slim fitting shoes again with the pointed toe I think
is really helping balance out the very oversized look at least on me. I just went with this very
oversized very extra trench coat because I feel like it just added to the sort of dressing up
aesthetic a little bit so I really really enjoyed that but as you can see this trench coat really
adds more shape to the outfit so that does really help a little bit. So of course last year I wanted
to share a sort of monochromatic outfit. It is one of my favorite favorite ways of styling anything.
It is just so instantly chic. It looks pulled together. I think the boots from the first outfit
these ones would look great with this outfit as well and I originally wanted to pair this with
a white button-up but because this already had a color it just doesn't really look right but if
you have a dress without a color I can really recommend trying that out. I also could not have
planned for this coat to fit any better in like lengthwise with this dress. I find it so elongating
it's just a little bit more pleasing to the eye. I'm gonna move on to the other dress now and show
a few outfits for that one as well. All right on to this much more slim fit kind of dress and it
gives off a very different vibe. Again because this is cut below the knee I tend to be very careful
with what kind of shoes I pair with it in general. I tend to go with shoes that are sort of ankle or
below and I've said this so many times it can be so difficult to get the right the right ankle boots
when you have something that is midi or mid-axi length anything below the knee essentially.
So for this first outfit I decided to go with some tights as I said before they add warmth but also
because the boots I chose these right here as you can see they hit above my ankle and when I don't
have tights on and then I just have a little bit of leg on display and I find that it really
chunks up the outfit and it just doesn't flow as nicely as when I have a pair of tights on.
I love these boots because they have like lacing they have some print they just add a little bit
more and even just these rivets here they are silver so they catch a little bit of light.
And to go with the shoes I chose a bag in sort of similar colors and also a print even though
they're not the same the rest of the outfit is so basic I felt like I could afford to do two
different prints on my accessories and obviously my leather jacket I love it with this sort of
I want to call this oil like I don't know what but uh this very dark gray color I feel like it
makes it a little bit more edgy and again I think oversized works really well when you have something
that is so sort of tight fitting. So I'm not completely switching out of the previous outfit
but instead of the leather jacket I wanted to add a few tweaks so I wanted to add my newest blazer
this is from and other stories it's definitely one of my newest obsessions I love this blazer I can't
stop wearing it and as you can see it is very similar in color so I got to do something a
little bit more monochromatic but this is a little bit more oversized and as you might be able to
see it kind of hits me at the widest point uh kind of the blazer ends at my widest point which
is my hips and that can tend to make the whole outfit look very sort of straight so I added my
valentino belt again just over my blazer and suddenly it's definitely one of my favorite looks
I am just obsessed with the shape that the whole outfit got just paired it off with a pointed toe
pump again I just really didn't want a heavy shoe to take any sort of attention to itself and sort
make the outfit any heavier I wanted to be about the top half of the outfit I will share one tip
I feel like I've said this so many times but if you feel like it's too cold to even wear these like
thin tights as you can see you can see some skin through I have some skin color tights hang on
so these super super unflattering tights right here um I actually bought them from an Instagram
ad for once that recommended me something that was not completely useless and these are fleece lined
you can see on the inside super super warm these are not very good looking on their own but when
you layer those under the tights that you normally wear it completely looks like skin it looks the
same but you have this extra layer of warmth I also wanted to add the trench coat from before
obviously it doesn't have to have a half sleeve you can go with a whole whole sleeve a full length
sleeve as well I just love that this adds on top of this dress so beautifully and even though this
dress is a little bit longer than the coat because it is so close to the body I feel like it works
but if you're wearing a flat shoe I can really recommend pointed toe and just match the color
whatever it is and as you can see I paired my brown belt with this coat just to get a little
bit of warmth into it and also accessorizing the coat just a little bit more and it just went so
well with the bag I had as well lightening up the outfit a little bit as the dress is obviously quite
dark also I know as per usual there isn't that much color in these lookbooks but I think adding
a really strong beautiful red like this coat obviously it's very long so it actually feels
like you get a very colorful outfit even if you're adding only one piece and I've had this for a
couple years now and I wear it a lot I think it is such a great way of feeling like you have a lot
more color in your wardrobe than you really do I feel like it dresses it up a little bit and again
making it maybe a little bit more happy and adding either a fancy clutch to this or like I have my
light beige marmont bag which is which can be quite dressy in itself and a nice pair of heels
and I definitely feel like this is an outfit that is easy to actually dress up even though you're
wearing a rivnet sweater dress all right the final outfit I wanted to show you is just layering this
very very warm wool mitt on top and this actually has like a half open back
and it is a little bit longer but I wanted it a bit more cropped to make it look like I have longer
legs again do I need to keep repeating myself I feel like this is the only thing I keep saying
but I essentially just wrapped it around folded it under a little bit but this is obviously a
fantastic way of adding more warmth and also getting more wear out of the dress now since this
is a very light top I tend to go with my tights again and just making my entire bottom half be
sort of in the same color palette I'm inside obviously so I'm getting quite warm you have to
remember you also have the dress underneath so this is double layered also I obviously just added
a little bit of accessorizing to my ear here so yeah those would be all the outfits I hope you
like them let me know what you think hit the thumbs up button if you like this video subscribe
