If you don't tell me what I dreamed and what this dream means, you will all be killed.
King Nebuchadnezzar's voice thundered as he threatened the fortune tellers.
If in return you will tell me the dream and its meaning, you will be rewarded with many
gifts and riches.
The king continued.
The fortune tellers were so puzzled, they could not understand why the king needed them
to tell him what happened in his dream.
After all, it was his dream.
They could not do what King Nebuchadnezzar asked, so the king got so angry that he ordered
for all the wise men of Babylon to be killed.
When Daniel heard what had happened at the king's court, he immediately asked to see
the king.
Welcome to a new episode from Daniel's Life.
This wise young man who was faithful to the Lord was tested countless times.
However, he did not hesitate, even for a moment, to trust in God and to worship Him in everything
he did.
During the second year of King Nebuchadnezzar's reign, he had a bad dream that troubled him
greatly.
He was so worried about what the dream might mean that he could not sleep.
The king thought that this dream might have a hidden meaning.
Unable to find meaning for what he saw in his dream, King Nebuchadnezzar thought to
himself, I don't understand this dream.
So, in the morning, I will call the wise men and fortune tellers living at the court to
explain to me what this dream is all about, he said to himself.
So when morning came and King Nebuchadnezzar woke up, what do you think happened?
Well, the king no longer remembered the dream.
Now the problem had become even more complicated.
However, given that during the night he was so troubled by his dream, the king understood
that the dream must be important and he could not ignore it.
He immediately called for all of the wise men, including the fortune tellers.
When they came, the king told them, I had a strange dream and I'm very eager to know
what it means.
May you live forever, our king, the wise men responded.
Tell us your dream and we will then interpret its meaning.
No, I forgot the dream, the king replied.
I expect you to tell me all about it.
If you don't tell me what I dreamed and what this dream means, you will all be killed.
The king Nebuchadnezzar's voice thundered as he threatened the fortune tellers.
If in return you will tell me the dream and its meaning, you will be rewarded with many
gifts and riches.
The king continued.
The fortune tellers were so puzzled, they could not understand why the king needed them
to tell him what happened in his dream.
After all, it was his dream.
One of the wise men stepped forward to answer the king.
My lord, the wise men started voice trembling.
There is no one on earth who can do what the king is asking.
Therefore, no king, however great and powerful he may have been, has ever asked such a thing
of any wise man, magician, or fortune teller.
What the king asks is too difficult.
There is no one who can give the king what he asks for, except for the gods who do not
live among people.
When the king heard those words, he became angry and very, very upset.
In fact, he got so angry that he ordered for all the wise men of Babylon to be killed.
When Daniel heard what happened at the king's court, he immediately asked to see the king.
Once he arrived at the palace, Daniel told Nebuchadnezzar,
Great king, if you would give me a little time, I will find out your dream and explain
its meaning to you.
The king accepted Daniel's offer.
Immediately, Daniel hurried back to his three friends, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, to
share with them what had happened at the king's court and to tell them about the king's order
to kill the wise men.
However, Daniel and his friends were convinced that despite the fact that no man could be
so wise as to tell the king the dream, God was the only one who could help him understand
this secret dream.
With a sincere heart, the four prayed to God and asked for his help.
That night, God showed Daniel the king's dream and its meaning.
Daniel was extremely grateful.
He prayed and praised God.
Blessed be the name of God forever and ever.
Daniel started praying.
He has wisdom and power.
He changes the times and seasons.
He gives and takes away the power of the kings.
He gives wisdom to the wise.
He makes known secrets that are deep and hidden.
He knows what is hidden in the darkness, and light comes from him.
I praise and glorify you, God of my ancestors, because you gave me wisdom and listened to
my prayers.
You revealed the king's dream to us.
Immediately, Daniel went to the captain of the king's guard and told him,
Captain, do not kill the other wise men, but instead take me to the king.
I will tell him his dream and its meaning.
So Daniel was once again brought in front of the king.
The king listened attentively as Daniel told him,
Oh, king, as you were falling asleep, you thought about what will happen in the future.
Then in your sleep, God showed you what was going to happen.
You saw in your dream a huge and shiny statue of a man.
Its head was made of gold, its chest and arms of silver.
Its belly and thighs were made of bronze.
The rest of its legs of iron and its feet were made partly of iron and partly of baked clay.
Then Daniel went on.
You saw a rock rolling towards the feet of this huge statue.
The rock came from a mountain where it had been cut out by someone who was not human.
Then the rock hit the statue's legs and the whole statue fell to the ground and broke into pieces.
But as you watched in your dream, Daniel added,
the rock became bigger and bigger until it became a very large mountain that filled the whole earth.
King Nebuchadnezzar nodded, remembering the dream and all the details.
Daniel told him exactly what he had dreamed.
Now I will tell you the meaning of this dream, said Daniel.
God wants to teach the king something through this dream.
Daniel continued using a firm tone.
The big statue represents four kingdoms of the world.
Your kingdom is first.
This is the golden head.
Another kingdom will come after you, not as great as yours,
represented by the silver chest and arms.
The third is shown by the bronze parts and the fourth by the iron feet and clay toes.
In the days of these kingdoms, Daniel continued,
God will set up a kingdom that will not be destroyed.
His kingdom is represented by the rock, untouched by human hands that rolled into the statue.
God will enlarge his kingdom until it covers the whole earth
and all other kingdoms will be broken to pieces.
This is the meaning of your dream, Daniel concluded.
King Nebuchadnezzar was amazed how wise Daniel was.
The king thought that Daniel was a god
and was ready to fall face down on the ground in front of him.
But just then, Daniel reminded King Nebuchadnezzar.
The king should know that God, who reveals secrets to people,
has made known to him what is going to happen, Daniel said.
God revealed this secret to me,
but you should know even though I was shown the meaning of the dream you had,
it does not mean that I have greater wisdom than other people.
It is God who speaks through me, Daniel stated, filled with faith.
Then King Nebuchadnezzar said,
Daniel, your God is truly the greatest of all gods and the lord of all kings
and he tells people things only he knows.
Overwhelmed by the secrets that Daniel revealed to him
and by the power that God had given Daniel to understand what no other man could,
King Nebuchadnezzar fell face down on the ground before Daniel.
Then he got up and gave the order to bring sacrifices
in honor of the God Most High whom Daniel served.
In addition to this, as a reward for revealing his dream and its meaning,
King Nebuchadnezzar gave Daniel many gifts and made him ruler over the land of Babylon.
From then on, Daniel was also in charge of leading all the wise men of the kingdom.
At Daniel's request, his three friends were made leaders over the land of Babylon too.
These young men were given Babylonian names.
The king named Daniel's three friends Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
Children, when we allow ourselves to be used by God, he can do great things through us.
Just as God used Daniel to reveal to King Nebuchadnezzar the lord's will
and his power through the dream the king had,
the lord can use us, me and you, to be his messengers to the people around us.
We just have to trust God and obey him.
