Week five of the FIVB Women's Volleyball Nations League here in Rimini, Italy.
And first point goes the way of China with a very nice play by Gong Xiangyu.
Free ball China. Oh that was nice. A little slide step, a little hop to get them out wide but it's
still going here. And then Ding Xia gets shut down by an excellent block from Rasha. We got a mega rally.
That's well left. Gonna come again. Just knew Veronkova was gonna hit that. 17-13.
Chance for China to go in front. Not like that they won't know. Rasha come again.
Good touch in the block. There's a better swing chance here. Zhuting.
Oh good up. That's a great dig by Podkarpia. And a wonderful block. Yanni puts it down.
And that's it. It's all over. The first set has gone the way of China. 25-18. A remarkable
comeback turnaround and then performance from China. Ding Xia's setting is just sublime.
Oh that's a huge block. Way to take away the cross court.
Again. Kapaeva is playing amazing. And it gives Russia the opportunity eventually to take the
point. Well this is all down to the work of Russia's libero. Keeping the ball alive with that
dig. I think the better of Zhuting. And then that one. Goncharova to do that. It's a good battle
between the outside hitters for both countries. Nice dig. That's a great pickup by Veronkova.
And another good put away by Fedoratseva.
That's well played. You get. It makes you wonder doesn't it? Maybe Lin Yingying.
Against the front row. Oh and that's that. So serving specialist.
Lin Yingying through the outside is incredible. It creates great competition for places between
Zhuting, Liu Xiaotong and Zhang Changning. And you think about those four outside hitters.
Only three of them are probably going to be going to Tokyo. So someone's going to miss out.
Well played Veronkova. Oh good up. Russia come again. Four players moving around the setter.
Goncharova can't get a full swing. The link between setter and hitters isn't quite there
at the moment. That's a better ball and that's a better outcome. A stable ball out wide by Matt
Vieva. Closing the gap between her hands in the net. Serve by Veronkova. Well passed. Zhuting.
Great serve that is. But it still doesn't find the floor. That was a chance.
And would you believe it? Zhuting has just outmuscled two blockers. Put a bit of pressure
on China. Who knows? The set's there for the taking. It's all ifs and buts at the moment.
This free ball should help. Koshaleva doesn't find a way past the block of Yan Ni.
Let's see if it comes in. That's an unforced error. But it's over.
A bit of a touch. Tough on this. Goncharova does the right thing. Free ball China though.
And calmly put away by Gong Xiangyu. Actually their chances of making it into the top four
staying there are diminishing. That's another point that goes the way of China.
Well played. Goncharova knew she didn't have a swing chance. Not going to come back.
Veronkova gets that one off the hands. Although it's not been given so we'll have a little
challenge. Goncharova to keep Russia in it. And that one's gone out off the block. Is there going
to be one last challenge? Or are they going to say no they can't because they don't have any
challenges left. And that's it. It's all over. China have done it. A straight sets victory over Russia.
