DOT Cracking Down on States Issuing Commercial Licenses to Illegal Immigrants

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said Thursday that the Department of Transportation is taking action against states that issue commercial driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants or misclassify foreign drivers as U.S. citizens.

“We have now found that many states have issued commercial driver's licenses that are designated as U.S. citizens, but they're issuing those licenses to foreigners or to illegals,” Duffy said. “These are individuals who can drive fuel tankers, school buses, and other dangerous big rigs on our roads, and they are in the country unlawfully.”

Duffy said some drivers are operating large trucks without any license at all, and that the department is seeing more crashes, more consequences, and more deaths on American roadways.
