Climbing Longs Peak — our 23rd 14er and second class-3 climb. We had quite the adventure just barely summiting in time just before the mountain got dumped in snow. Glad we were able to sneak our climb in just before the season ended
Okay, so we are on our way to Gokul.
If it works out, I don't know. We'll see.
I'm at the trailhead.
I think we're doing it with a couple.
23rd.
Let's talk about a wish that wouldn't end.
His practice round.
Dude, that was actually kind of impressive.
Holy ----.
I'm here, right?
And I'm wearing my slippers.
Oh, wow.
I mean, that's a pretty good approach.
Here we are.
Making a sign.
Here at the trailhead.
Is it C or CK?
Yeah, exactly.
------- nailed it.
Don't forget the silent E on the end.
I thought it was a silent G.
Is it C8?
All right, now, what is the elevation, though, actually?
14,259.
Two in the morning.
He's eating a Slim Jim and a fish stick.
I have chosen to have a little gentle Pop-Tart.
I'm very tired.
All right, it's 2.30 a.m.
Our crew is here, getting ready to go up.
Temperature's ice-covered rock at any time.
Do you think you're really soaked in that information, babe?
Yeah.
Are you prepared?
It's all right here.
Are you prepared?
I can't read.
Oh, ----.
But can you climb?
Doing good.
Almost to the keyhole.
We're going to go through that little hole,
the other side of the ridge,
and then make our way up to the summit.
Oh, God.
Yeah.
Made it to the shelter at the keyhole.
It is sick in here.
Oh, it's warm.
There's a whole seat and everything.
Whoa.
Safety first.
Uh-huh.
On the ledges now, potentially.
A little staircase right here.
Yeah.
I feel like a monkey.
Oh, trough now.
Came from the keyhole over there,
across a bunch of narrow slots.
We go a bunch of steep ---- now.
300 feet left.
Yeah.
And then maybe we'll finally be there.
Maybe.
Getting exhausted now.
See how long I can go with one hand before I fall.
Yeah, that's about all.
Good job, babe.
On the narrows now.
Just made it up the trough.
There?
Yeah.
39.
Just got to walk across this scary ----,
up the home stretch, and we'll be done.
Made it to the right side of the dredge.
Almost.
Woo.
1446.
Oh.
200 feet.
And that's probably also 200 feet.
Yep.
We're almost there.
End of the final pitch.
Nastia's leading the way.
We're at 1451, so.
This has got to be it.
Or I'll just be like a little two-step walk.
We made it to the top for a long, painful journey.
Finally against all odds.
Retainer number 23, Jake and I.
Weather is perfectly fine.
They lied.
Mostly sunny.
No wind.
Chilly, but not bad.
Gorgeous up here.
We're going to hang out for a while because we're all freaking exhausted.
Woo.
My finger has emerged.
It's fully out.
Yeah.
Here we are on the narrows.
This is pretty much the sketchiest part of the hike as far as I'm concerned.
There's a big old drop-off on this left side.
She's going over it while they're not swimming under it.
Jesus.
No problem.
Were you holding your breath?
Look at Nastia.
Nastia is over it.
We're all over it.
The slip and slide.
I really am about to slide.
Woo.
Nice.
So much better coming down than up.
Coming up this thing was a bitch.
Holy ----.
We are at the top of a mountain peak and it is ******* snowing on us.
We're getting some flurries.
We came down just in ******* time.
Christ.
If the forecast was correct, what time is it?
Not even noon.
1140.
I think now we're in a steep slope now.
Right.
Actually, I promise giant boulders.
Yeah.
Meanwhile, I have to cross this huge empty field.
It's getting wild.
Good thing we had the speed we did.
I would not want to be on that ---- in the snow.
All right.
Cheers.
Cheers to long peak.
Woo.
Long day.
Woo.
Doing it down here because we had to rush down with the weather.
Yeah, that's about all.
