The Pandulagama veterinary team and Anuradhapura wildlife officials worked to rescue a wild elephant that fell into a hole that was being repaired and closed by a culvert in a tank embankment in the Medawachchiya Kedawa area. In a risky operation, the wildlife officials were able to rescue the elephant using a backhoe. Several infected gunshot wounds are visible all over its body. The bullet wounds have blinded its eyes. The elephant, who is an elderly elephant, is still receiving veterinary treatment near the Kedawa tank, due to difficulty in getting up and receiving immunosuppressive and painkiller injections.
