Hey there, Fun Science Demos! Welcome to today's Fun Sci Scab Hunt. Now, this one is a classic.
One of the first videos on the channel actually covered this topic. In front of me here, I have
two measuring cups. This one is so hot it's actually steaming, and this one is cold. I can
prove it to you as well. I have here this really cool laser thermometer. On this screen here,
it'll tell me the temperature in both Fahrenheit and Celsius. So let's take a look at this hot
one first. You can see the laser if I hold down this button. It's telling me that this water is
173 degrees Fahrenheit, or that's 78 degrees Celsius for all of our international fans.
If I take a look at this colder water, this cold water is 42 degrees Fahrenheit, or
whoa, just 5.9 degrees Celsius. That's pretty cold. Now, in front of them, I have these food
colorings. I'm going to put the red in the hot measuring cup and the blue in the cold.
What do you think is going to happen? Well, let's test it and see. Let's wait and see what happens.
Whoa. It looks like the hot water is spreading out the ink faster than our cold water is.
In fact, the way the cold water suspends the ink is really cool looking. Is this what you expected
to see? I'm certainly surprised. If you think you know what's happening, leave a comment below.
