Golf is a tough game and for most of us
it's not about hitting 300 yards or
shaping a perfect draw. It's about
enjoying the round, hitting more
fairways and building confidence shot
after shot.
This series is all about you, the
average golfer, and helping you build
the most forgiving golf bag in 2025. One
that makes golf easier, more consistent,
and way more fun.
So, be honest. How many times have you
stood on that first tea, driver in hand,
and all you can think of is please just
keep that ball in play? Well, that's
what this series is all about. Building
a bag that works for you, not against
you. And we're going to kick this thing
off episode one with the driver. Trying
to find a driver that finds fairways
more often than not.
You see, I hear from plenty of golfers
who say they want to get better at golf.
lower scores, lower handicap, but do
they really? I take one glance in the
bag and I sometimes wonder, are the
clubs they choosing and their ego
getting in the way? So, the big problem
we have as average golfers is that we
watch the TV and we see the drivers that
the pros use and we tend to follow suit.
Them drivers are are set up for people
with incredibly high swing speeds,
probably very different to yours and to
mine. They want to shape the ball. They
want to do many things that we just
don't have the ability to do. We want
the opposite to that. We want stability.
We want high launch. And we want
forgiveness. And those things will not
be found in the drivers that you see on
tour. So, we need to look in a different
direction. And that's what I'm going to
tell you about in today's video.
Now, in all honesty, that probably
wasn't the best of drives, but I got
away with it. And the reason I got away
with it was because of what this driver
is built, how this driver rather is
built in terms of forgiveness and for
allowing for my frailties on the tea,
which have just been hugely exposed
there. Perfect timing. Now, the
difference between the tour drivers, if
you like, is they're not interested so
much in MOI. And MOI means just how much
a club twists through impact. The higher
the MOI, the greater the forgiveness.
The other thing that will favor us
significantly is the loft and the spin
of our driver. If we can get that ball
launching high, spinning perhaps a tad
higher than those torros, that will help
again keep that ball straighter. And
that's what I consider to be
forgiveness. So, the first thing I want
to concentrate on is for you to consider
what loft you have on your current
driver and what you perhaps should be
looking at. All products in this series
are from Vice Golf. The driver featured
is available from only £289,
which shows golf can be affordable if
you look in the right places. Vice Golf
aims to make golf more accessible,
injecting tour quality golf gear into
every golfer's game. If you visit the
Vice Golf website now, you can sign up
and be the first in line for exclusive
access to Black Friday deals. Well, the
good news is we still managed to find a
fairway. Although, like I said, it it
wasn't my best. So, this driver I'm
using in today's video is from Vice.
It's the VGD01.
It's extremely well priced and I've got
to say I'm super impressed with how it's
performed, but that's not really what
I'm here to talk about. It's the type of
driver that I've chosen in terms of
building the most forgiving golf back
for average golfers. The first thing to
note is this driver has 12 degrees of
loft. So, forget all that nine degree,
that 10, 10 and a half. Get them out
your bag. Just have a look at ball
flight, have a look at spin, have a look
at launch. How long is that st that ball
staying up in the air for? Because
particularly with that slower swing
speed, we need some help. That 12 1/2°
is going to be massive. Don't forget the
first thing I said in this video,
toughest club in a bag to use is driver.
One of the main reasons for that is
because of the loft that's on it. So,
we've gone from a potential 90°, which a
lot of golfers will use, 3 1/2° weaker,
which is going to be a massive help. So,
the first thing to consider when
choosing your next driver is that loft.
Get your ego out the way and pay close
attention to that loft and ask your
fitter to make sure he gives you a go at
something in and around 12 12°.
That's so good.
That's so good. I mean, I'm super
impressed, like I say, with the
performance of this club. I also love
the look of it, but I'm not necessarily
reviewing this today. Like I said, just
the type of driver. And the next thing I
wanted you to consider if you really
truly want to lower scores, if you want
to get some control of your driver, if
you want to find more fairways, and you
got to pay some careful consideration to
what shaft you put in that 12° head,
first of all, really consider the
weight. A lighter weight shaft is going
to allow you to swing that little bit
easier. It's going to help you cope with
your slower swing speed. And that
combination of that shaft and loft on
head will help hugely. One thing out
here this morning, I've been able to
swing within sort of 80% I would say of
where I would like to be in terms or
what I where I can get to if you like,
not where I want to be, where I'm often
at 100% too fast, too trying too hard
because of the shaft choice that I've
made. This is super light. I think the
other thing that needs to happen is
manufacturers need to drop labels like
senior shafts. There's no such thing.
Just base it on weight and also consider
what that flexes as well. The model that
Vice have put together this VG DO1 as
standard is a 45 uh inch length shaft.
There is an option to go a bit shorter
and as you know I'm also an advocate of
that. This is all about control. It's
all about losing the ego and getting
that lighter weight shaft, the flex
being perhaps a little bit different
than you're familiar with. Couple it
with that loft on the head and you're
starting to find a whole more fairways.
And you'll also see your score start to
tumble. So, I think what we've learned
in today's video, at least I have, is
that ego is really the thing that gets
in the way of you lowering your scores.
And if you really want to do so, then
you've got to pay some serious attention
to how that bag looks. And what I'm
going to do in the next uh week or so is
going to release a number of videos
within this series that breaks down the
whole bag. Next up, we're going to look
at irons and again highlight the
problems that you're perhaps creating
for yourself due to your ego and perhaps
not looking at the options and how they
might help you lower scores. Enjoy the
game a little bit more. Have more fun.
Just drop that ego in the meantime. I've
got one last drive to hit with this
driver. I've enjoyed every bit of it. It
looks fantastic and credit to Vice Golf
for making such a decent product
available at such an affordable price.
Love that. I will see you all in a
couple of days time where we look at the
irons and again look to build the most
forgiving golf bag for average golfers.
