Welcome to Math with Mr. J.
In this video, we're going to answer the
question, the distances in miles a
delivery driver traveled over the past 7
days are shown below. What is the range
of the distances? Now, remember the
range tells us how spread out our data
is between the highest value and lowest
value. So basically how far apart those
values are. In other words, range tells
us about the span of our data. We find
the range by taking the highest value
and subtracting the lowest value. So
we're finding the difference between the
highest and lowest values. The first
thing that we're going to do here is put
the data in order from least to
greatest. So, we're going to organize
this, and that's going to help us
clearly see what our lowest and highest
distances are. It looks like our lowest
distance is 110 miles. So, 110 miles.
Cross that off. Next, it looks like 112.
Then, we have 125.
Next is 128,
then 133,
then 140,
and our greatest distance
142 miles.
And now our data is in order from least
to greatest. Now again, range equals the
highest value minus the lowest value. So
our range here
is going to be our greatest
142 miles
minus our lowest 110 miles.
142 minus 110 gives us a range
of 32
miles.
So our correct answer here is choice D.
Again, 32. So there you have it. There's
the range of those distances. Just
remember, we find the range by taking
the highest value and subtracting the
lowest value. So whether you are
studying for a test, learning this in
class, just looking for a problem to
solve, or whatever the case may be, I
hope that helped. Thanks so much for
watching. Until next time, peace.
