Foot binding was a Chinese custom of wrapping up young girls' feet to change their shape. A small foot in China, similar to a tiny waist in Victorian England, represented the height of female refinement. The practice of foot binding, caused permanent and major health problems for the women who practiced it, but sadly the practice persisted.
