You deserve to be comfy AND fabulous, so let's make an 1890's tea gown to swan around in! Nix that horrible loungewear for something a little more elegant. People historically needed a bridge between sleepwear and daywear as much as we do. From the robes de chambre in the late 17th century through the ubiquitous wrappers of the 18th and mid-19th century to the pièce de résistance, the tea gowns of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, there are many options for loungewear that are equally as comfortable as that stained hoodie, without looking like a couch troll!

I'm so excited to share this make with you! Using the tea gown pattern from Laughing Moon Mercantile, I'll walk you through the steps to make this gorgeous dress, including some pattern modifications to take it from the 1880's style into the 1890's. The Laughing Moon pattern is advanced, large, and laborious; but my modifications (mainly, nixing the full lining and simplifying some of the steps) will make this easier to make and easier to get in and out of...no joke. The OG gown is like a puzzle. Nobody wants to do all that work when they're looking to lounge!
