A Full Day Of Eating Amazing Food In Vietnam

This is word of mouth, the series where we get suggestions from locals and then we go try them. On a previous episode we got a suggestion for a place called Society Cafe and Dining. We're here in District 3, let's go check this spot out. Down this little alleyway here, I don't know if this place is still called District 3 or not. Apparently like the city has completely changed the entire map of the city. I think all the districts are gone. It's really confusing, I don't understand it yet, it's a little bit frustrating. But the restaurant is still here. Xin chào. It's a QR menu, I do hate that. I don't like that. I don't like the menu and I don't like the chair. You don't like this chair? No, not to eat. That's not good for eating. I do like the sound of this drink though. Cold brew hibiscus tea, lime juice, tamarind, beat me shrimp salt. That sounds interesting and I like interesting stuff. You like interesting stuff too? That's because you're a cool guy. Yeah, I'm a cool guy. Yeah, you're a cool guy. Yeah. Would you rather have fried chicken with mayonnaise or fried chicken with mango sauce? Mango sauce. Mango? JD, would you rather have fried rice with bacon and peas or fried rice with fish and egg sauce? Peas. I don't like the ordering thing at all. Is that what you just ordered? Yeah, I just ordered. I understand that this is kind of like a weird set up. They're downstairs so it'd be hard to have a server running here all the time but it's not pleasant. It doesn't feel welcoming to do this like this. It feels like I'm texting somebody. Yeah, it doesn't feel like uninvited, unlisted. We go to the restaurant and in the future time, enjoying the food and talking, have the experience. Everybody doing the menu things, please cancel it. Yeah, I hate it. And then like I can push a button to like call the staff or call to pay. No, it's a minor point for me. Mmm. Why do you have a mustache and a beard? I like it. I always liked it. I think when I was young, I always wanted it. And when I don't have it, I look really, really, really young. Mommy doesn't like it if I look younger than her. This one's cool. Cold brew hibiscus tea, lime juice, tamarind, Vietnamese shrimp stock. Is it a mango chicken? You can't even see the picture when it comes like this. I'm gonna get this. And this. There's Liam's view that he likes. Liam said, nice view. The bathroom. Do you want a World Famous Daddy's Toilet review? Because I got a toilet review too. So, Tree gives high ass scores for toilets. Alright, go ahead, Tree. What do you think? Why do you say high? Hot and clean. Alright. A 7.2. 7 out of 2? What is that? 7 out of 2? Yeah, it's a 6. It's hot. Hot and clean. Come on. This is the bacon fried rice that you chive. I think this is just a side of pickle I ordered. It smells good. It does smell good. I think the fried rice is good. Do you like it, JD? It's pretty good. Is it good fried rice? It's a winner. It's a winner? Oh, good. I'm glad you like it. Yeah, the fried rice and pickle is good. What did you say? The pickle is good? Oh, bada bing. There we go. Keep it coming. We're hungry. No, this is the mango one. It's cucumber. Fried chicken with tom yum. Char siu pork rice. Mango chicken. That looks beautiful. It's good? It's good. Yeah? It's good. You think it's amazing? This is tom yum fried chicken. Yeah, the flavor of the sauce is really good. It's a little spicy. Not crazy. But it has a lot of flavor. Sour, lemongrass, galangal. It's good with cucumber salad. It's good, too. I think the tom yum is my favorite. Want to try the sauce? Go for it. What do you think? It's not spicy. It's not spicy? How flavorful? It's flavorful, isn't it? A lot of flavor in there. It's not spicy. It is a little spicy. It is a little spicy, yeah. Which one is your favorite? That rice? The fried rice. Yeah. And the chicken. I would say the food is pretty damn good. Yeah. I think the food is touch. The food, touch? Yeah. What does that mean? Touch. This is my new word. That means it's good. Did you just start something? Mm-hmm. You just started, oh, my wife has never started something before. Okay, the food is touch. Touch. Touch your heart. Mm, okay. Touch. Oh, you're a whole new woman now. I like this. The food is touch. You know what? The food. You touch me. The food. No, the food is really good. Yeah, the food is really, actually, really solid. I don't like it. I mean, I understand it's like a kind of like a coffee shop. Yeah, it's a coffee shop. They don't have a kitchen until 11 a.m. It is like a coffee shop restaurant. The seating is not really comfortable. The seat is not really comfortable. No, the seat's bad. Yeah. The tables are bad. But the food is good. I think it's really good. It's really good. And this whole menu system and ordering, I mean, they're doing it because they can't have a server just stand here every second. But it's not cool. But actually, everything is very good. And Tom Yum Chicken, I think, is great. And the kid, if you have a kid, the chicken mango is delicious. And they have a fried chicken with no, with mayonnaise, too. So you can get two different styles. And they have a fried squid. I wanted to get that, but I hold myself back here. I mean, I think everything is at least an eight and a half. And the Tom Yum, I think, is probably a nine for me. I think, really, this guy just needs a better location. The chef or the owner, just when he's ready, when he moves to a better location that fits this better, the food is there 100%. Yeah, but this room sucks. This room's not hip. This is a square box with nothing in it. Like the little patio area outside is nice. I'll show you that. This little patio thing over here is very cute. And at nighttime, would be nice. It's just right now, it's freaking hot. There's the Lord over there. But it's cute out here. They totally complicated directions in this city now. But apparently, this isn't District 3 anymore. And apparently, District 1 is not District 1 anymore. But okay, regardless. The location's great. We're right at the border of District 1 and District 3. It's super close. So, yeah. I just don't like the building layout. Here's the secret. Just dip everything in this sauce. The sauce is great. It's definitely a good sign if I come in grumpy with, I'm not liking everything, then all of a sudden the food comes, I'm like, ooh, pretty damn good. It's annoying. I hate the QR menu, dude. Drop that crap. A lot of interesting drinks. Yeah. A cold brew with hibiscus and calamansi. That's super interesting to me. I like you can order the pickles on the side. That's great. We have a table full of dirty dishes. Do I call the server to clear the table? That just feels weird. Cavemen were real, right? In the old days when the dinosaurs were real, the cavemen were real? Well, people say that the humans were never around during dinosaur period. Alive ones? There was probably some sort of mammal, but other people are going to tell you the humans were riding the dinosaurs. I don't think that's true, though. Ooh. Are you going to bite it? I'm going to bite it. You feeling happy? Yeah. Very excited about your favorite chicken? You don't want that onion on there, huh? Freak you out, a little bit of shredded scallion. Jadie is crushing this chicken. God, maybe she won it three orders. This was actually my least favorite dish of everything. Yeah, yeah. I liked everything else better. It's good, but I liked everything else better. Very hot in this hallway. I know. It's cooler outside than it is in this hallway. This hallway is hot. All right, let's go. This is cool. It's nice down here. Come on. Well, the downstairs is hip. If you're going to come, I would come with two people and sit downstairs, because upstairs sucks, honestly. Upstairs sucks. But the food's really good. They should have the upstairs just for coffee only. It's not for food. It really, if the food was not great, I would have given that a pretty not cool review at all. And honestly, I guess overall, it's an eight, maybe a seven and a half, because the service and the environment sucks. But the food's great. I would think that if we ate downstairs with the cool vibes, it could be a nine. Really, really, really solid. The price point's good, too, for what it is. It's pretty damn good. We're heading over now to a different spot in District 3. I'm going to go get some acupuncture. I got some back pain, so we're going to do that. We're just trying to cross the street right now. A lot of traffic, a lot of bang. Yo, I just finished up some acupuncture at this hospital. It's pretty cool. Not bad. I kind of fell asleep. This is a really good massage. Really good, like, deep massage, and then they threw those needles in there for a little bit. This is a cool spot. Let me show you. This is in, like, District 3. It's like a hospital that does traditional Chinese medicine. Pretty cool. $3.90. Like a massage, $120 each section, so acupuncture is $1.50. So it's about $16 for around an hour. The guy gave me a good massage, and he definitely found some stuff out in my shoulder. That part was cool. This place is good, though. But it's definitely, it's going to be hard if you don't speak Vietnamese in here. It's definitely going to be hard. I'll put the address down below if you're interested. I've got to head over to the Dot Magazine. We're going to do a super quick interview, and I promised the kids if they stayed, I would take them to get a fancy dessert. So we'll get a fancy dessert for them. Send you out. We're going to go to Bui Vien Street. I just finished a quick little interview with the Dot Magazine. The kids have been very good today, so it's time for fancy desserts. They've been patient. Tree and Jade have never been to this spot, so they will be very excited. You may remember this from a previous video, but we are at La Verte. Very beautiful place. Very cool dessert spot. That part's great. Wow. The croissant is the best. I don't know if it's the best, but it's good. Do you think you will come back there again? I'd like to find something in D7. I think I can find an acupuncture in D7. I don't think there's anything magical going on. I would go again, for sure. I could love to try it. Well, yeah, but is it worth an hour and a half of my time, three hours of my time? No. I'd rather pay a little bit more. Obviously, I don't want it in Fumi Hong, but something- Quarry. At least closer. I like the peanut thing on the bottom here. It's really good. Yeah. I think the pig is my favorite one. Oh, that's good. It's coffee and cold brew. I think there's lychee in there, too. Trace, this is your first time here. You like this place? It's pretty cool, right? I think it's green tea, not like matcha. It's not super strong. But even this apple thing, it's got thyme on it. It's good. I like something traditional. You like something traditional? And why did you marry this man? I am not that opposite of traditional. All desserts are very similar, but they're not sweet. They're really light, fluffy. That part's really good. Even if it's in a box, even if there's no- Oh, the cheese is good. It's not lamb and cow. It's more like cream cheese than lamb and cow. Yeah, it's good. We're going to keep eating. Let's get out of here. You got a number? You like it? Yeah. That was very close. Eight. Eight? Wow. JD, did you love it? Yeah. Sixteen. Liam? Ten. I think I agree. I think it's an eight. It's really fun. It's just, it's expensive for what it is. I don't think anything's like amazing, but I think it's very good. So, I'll go eight. Eight, two. Something like that. I'm kind of hungry, honestly. I didn't eat much today. It's now 40, and we're just debating. We don't want to go home. By the time we get home, it's going to be 5.15, and then I've got to cook. No. We don't want to go home and then go out again. So, we're just going to eat. There's a spot in District 4 that does Szechuan food that I took my wife to one time. She loved it. So, we're going to stop there, and we'll show you the spot we really like. Beautiful. I really think you could come with me. What did you love about that place? You loved the food there? Yeah. That's great. Yeah, very cute things. I think it's definitely worth you going. That dessert spot is definitely worth a try. It's beautiful, in the right environment. It's great. But, I've been really excited to start to see some foreign food on the street. So, we've been to this Chinese spot once before, Szechuan, and I just see, like, two more that just popped up. So, maybe it's becoming a thing, which is so fantastic. But, most of the stuff here is going to be snails and, like, Vietnamese grilled drinking restaurants. Oh my god, Nam Nguoi. Yeah, don't worry. Oh, that's cool. It's got a napkin thing? Yeah. Yeah, that's a pretty cool thing to get napkins up there. Pretty perfect. Still, like, a paper menu the best, but this is at least better than the QR code. Oh, lamb skewers were amazing here. Definitely going to get lamb skewers here. Chuy, if you want, we can get some duck heads. Do you want to get some duck heads? Four duck heads for 40k. Or we can get some pork tongue. Or we can get duck tongues. Luoi Viet. Dad, what does alcohol do to you? It makes you feel funny. You feel a little bit relaxed. It makes you feel loose. It means it makes you feel more comfortable around strangers. Things that would make you nervous. You feel less nervous about stuff. If I drink all the alcohol? Yes, but you also might not perform that well at the competition. And then if you, you also might puke if you drink too much. If you drink too much, it makes you sick. So like the right amount will make you a little bit more comfortable to try stuff. It might make things a little bit more fun. But it does make you sick. So you got to be careful. And sometimes people get really addicted to it. We got some kind of pickle on the table. But I heard it was spicy. Looks like daikon radish. What? Did you try that? Yes. You ate one? Yes. Woo. Go ahead, big boy. I ate the whole thing in one bite. But it actually goes really quick. It's pretty hot, but it disappears really quick. You all right there, young man? No. No? You okay? Doing good? I ate the whole thing in one bite. Oh, Tree's gone. We'll see him later. They just asked if we want the fish, sky, spicy, normal, really spicy. We said really spicy. I went on the Dot magazine today. The good, bad, weird. He asked me about restaurants that ask you on a level of spicy from 0 to 10. And I said that was bad because I just want the authentic spice. I don't like it when the restaurant gives you a spicy from 0 to 10 because I just want the authentic spice level. If the authentic spice level is really spicy, I'll take that. But sometimes the restaurant, maybe the authentic spice is 7, but they offer 10 just because for crazy people. So I hope really spicy is what normal people eat. Not like they're going to try to burn my mouth out. You want to give a world-famous bathroom view? Okay. What is it? Oh, 6. 6. Now this is going to be like legit Mapo Tofu, I think. So I don't know what this is going to taste like for Liam. Liam had this twice already and he liked it. Come on. Grilled potato, grilled goat, and then we have a grilled Bun Bao too. That's good. Grilled potato is so interesting. Yeah. It's good. Hey boy. Hey boy, how are you? Just awesome. I'm giving you a point for behaving. I'm giving you another point for trying everything. Two extra points. Four points today. You're kicking butt, Liam. There we go. Give me that rice. And now every time I've ever had rice from a Chinese restaurant, the rice is always terrible for some reason. Hopefully this rice will be all right. I don't like a lot of fat, but I think this fat is really tender. I expect this restaurant to be spicy. Grilled, whoa, look at that. Wow. Holy crap. Whoa, that's amazing. Holy crap. People can't tell how big it is. It's so freaking big. Fried rice looks good. This is going to be spicy though. Holy crap. Look at this freaking thing. This bowl is so big. It's hard for you to see it on camera how freaking big this bowl is, but it's awesome. I like Szechuan food. It's like a roller coaster. It's like, whoa. Yo, that Szechuan is kicking in. I freaking love Szechuan peppercorn. When you taste this, it's not spicy. It's different than spicy. And it kind of makes your mouth feel cold. It numbs your mouth. So good. When I tell you that I want to go to a place in China that has a big spicy hot pot, this is that kind of food. I want to go to a place in China that this food comes from. Wow. The fish here is a pickled cabbage broth, I guess. I never tried that. I'm excited to try it. But I'm just enjoying the Mapo tofu right now. And the fried rice looks really good too. Let's taste the first sip of this thing. We ordered this super extra spicy or super spicy or whatever. It doesn't look crazy. The broth is good. I like it. Sour, sweet. There's pickled cabbage. I know that. Fried garlic. So there's fried fish and steamed fish? So what is it? Some kind of flour? Very exciting. Wow. You get a piece of that fish. It's so tender. That's good. It seems like the fish belly they fried. Try that too. Yeah, the fried part is like all bones. That's just like the belly. The steamed fish is freaking good. The fried fish is okay. It's not as good as the steamed one. I wonder if the steamed one they put corn starch on it. If they do that velveting technique because it's so soft. And I'm still waiting for this to blow my head off. It's not that crazy. I don't see anything yet. I think the Mapo tofu is spicier. This big freaking bowl is $2.50. It's like $10. That's crazy. That's so cheap. We did get tilapia. That's the cheapest one. But you can get tilapia or catfish or pomfret or frog. It's really good. I love it. I don't feel like this is so spicy, but I'm sweating my butt off right now. And the kids say they're not hot. So I guess it's hot. Liam's going to try Szechuan peppercorn. This is his first one ever in his life. He's got a little guy there. It's not spicy, but it's weird. It'll make your tongue feel weird. But it only lasts for a couple minutes. It'll go away. It's not a big deal. What do you think? Can you say something about it? It's kind of weird corn. Weird corn? Can you feel your tongue? Does it feel a little weird? And now after you have that, when you taste the food, the food tastes different. And your water will taste weird. It's fun. Try the water. Is that cool? I think when you eat it, you start to get addicted to it. Now I love it so much. I think that's your first one. Maybe your second one, you're going to love it. Maybe your 10th one, you're going to love it. I don't know. I don't think this is that spicy, but I'm sweating. When I open my mouth, I feel like I'm holding something in my mouth. Sometimes it makes your mouth feel cold, like you're having mint gum or something like that. Can I have fried rice? Yeah. You want to try the fried rice with it? The fried rice is good too, by the way. Actually, all the food here is good. Really good. It doesn't taste the same. It tastes different, yeah. Daddy starts to crave that. They call it tingling or numbing. Numbing and tingle. It is fun, right? Yeah. JD loves the grilled bread. I would say this place kicks ass. It's a nine. I love it. Woo! Let's go. Come on. Yeah, that was awesome. Freaking love it. And this is their grill system. They got a grill set up. Wow. The freaking charcoals are pumping. It's so hot. Now, I think this place is called Pho Sua. Now it's confusing. There's so many spots on this street. This one is called Guan Sua. I saw in the inside they have some branding that says Pho Sua. So I don't know what the name of the place is called. But I'll find the address. I'll put it down below. Okay. Guan Sua Cannon. So restaurant, skewer restaurant, grilled fish. But the address here is down here. 474. I think it's freaking fire. I love it. Nine out of ten? Eight. Oh my god, terrible score. Trash score, nine. Ling, what did you tell me about that Sichuan peppercorn? The weirdest food you ever ate? Is that what you said? Yeah. Do you think you would try that again or is it going to take you a while to try it again? I think I'll try it again. Yeah. When we're looking at the quality of the food and the price point, it's amazing. Look at this takeout container. We took home the soup. Look how big this takeout container is. It's humongous. They charge us $10,000 for the takeout container. Now I understand why. I could put a Bundt cake in there. It's crazy. Pretty freaking awesome day. I hope beer is adding up. Sichuan's adding up.
