Washington BDR Day 1: Section 6 and (part of) 5. Canadian Border, Skull and Crossbones, Ruby Grade
Day one of our Washington BDR adventure started at the Canadian Border. From there, we headed south through the mountain passes of WABDR section 6 to the town of Conconully. After gassing up in Conconully, we made the decision to proceed onto WABDR section 5, up the infamous Ruby Grade, and to Leader Lake near Okanagan to camp for the night. One of the biggest highlights of Washington BDR section 6 was the famous Skull and Crossbones Corral and Skull and Crossbones Cabin on Skull and Crossbones Pass. While we were there, we ran into Lorry from Outback Motortek on his way back to Canada, heading in the opposite direction. Overall, the Washington BDR difficulty of sections 6 and 5 was easy to intermediate, with a lot of fast gravel roads and a few steep, rocky sections and a ton of drainage ruts to avoid. So far, our Washington BDR motorcycle camping adventure is off to a great start, and I can't wait to share WABDR day 2 with you, featuring the rest of WABDR section 5 and a very unfortunate incident that ended the WABDR adventure for one of our riders...
