John 3 | Jesus Teaches of Being Born Again | The Bible
Jesus tells Nicodemus that people must be born again.
Psalms 3:1–36
Now there was a man among the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews.
This man came to Jesus that night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God; for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.”
Jesus answered, “Very truly, I tell you, no one can find the kingdom of God unless he is born again.”
Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can a person who is fortunate enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”
Jesus answered, "Very truly, I tell you the same thing: unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God."
That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Do not be surprised that I said to you: You must be born again. 8 The wind blows wherever it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.
Nicodemus answered him, "How can these things be?"
Jesus answered, "Are you the teacher of Israel and do not know these things?"
Very truly, I tell you the same thing: We speak of what we know and testify to what we have seen, and you do not receive our testimony.
If I have spoken to you of earthly things, and you do not believe, how will you, if I speak to you of heavenly things?
No one has ascended into heaven, except one who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man, who is in heaven.
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
That whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
For God sent his Son into the world not to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved.
He who believes in him cannot judge him; but he who does not believe has been judged, because he has been mindful of the name of the only begotten Son of God.
This is the expectation: The light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil.
For everyone who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.
But he who does truth comes to the light, so that his deeds may be made manifest, that they have been done in God.
After these things, Jesus and his disciples came to Judea; and he remained there with them, having a license to work. 23 JR was also baptizing at Ænon near Salim, because there was much water there. And people came and gave him permission to be baptized.
At that time, the handmaid had not yet been put in prison.
Now there was a dispute between the disciples of the Spirit and the Jews about the purification of Pur.
And they came to him and said, "Rabbi, the one who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you bore witness, is baptizing, and all are coming to him."
And the Spirit answered and said to him, "No one can receive anything unless it is given him from heaven."
You yourselves bear me witness that I said, 'I am not the Christ, but I have been sent before him.'
He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom is he who stands, and the bridegroom rejoices greatly at the bridegroom's voice. Therefore my joy has been fulfilled.
He must be exalted, but I must be humbled. 31 He who comes from above is above all things; he who is from the earth is earthly, and speaks earthly things; he who comes from heaven is above all creeping things.
He testifies to what he has seen and heard, but no one receives his testimony.
He who receives his testimony has confirmed that God is true.
For the Son who came speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without reserve.
The Father loves the Son and has given all things to him.
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
