Japan: The Spirit of the Rice Fields

Aenokoto is an ancient ceremony during which Japanese farmers meet with the spirits living in their rice field.

Passed down from generation to generation, this traditional agricultural custom from the northern Noto area has made the list of UNESCO Intangible Cultural Assets.

Although not forgotten, it is conducted by fewer and fewer people nowadays. A curious young farmer asks an elder to show him how to practice this unique ritual.
