Selena Gomez on 'Good for You' Going No. 1: 'I Wasn't Sure I Believed It'

I don't remember where I was, but I saw it on Instagram. So I didn't really, I wasn't sure if I believed it. All of a sudden my team called me and said I went number one. That feeling of not knowing if it was the right choice and then having it be the right choice is such a big relief. And it felt really good. I was very proud. The reason why it was such an important song for me is because I didn't realize that my voice could do that. Something that I was really insecure about ended up ultimately being the best quality of the song. There was just a really important narrative. She wanted the song to be empowering. She wanted the song to feel like it was about subject matter she'd never spoken about before. She wanted to be sexy in a way she'd never been before and vulnerable in a way she'd never been before. She knows what's unique about her. And she always has said, I don't have the best voice, I'm not the best dancer, but what I am is emotional. I think the decision to bring Rocky on, Selena was just a fan. And after everyone had heard the track and was so excited about it everyone said, you know, you need a rapper on here. I think he just, he has a way of kind of taking people into this really deep, dark place. Really central place from a guy's point of view. Which I think added to the song completely. It really was a team effort. Everything from Sarah reaching out to Rocky. Sarah trying to get in touch. Aaron spending tens of hours in the studio. It was everybody that's in this photo really being involved trying to make that happen. With this record it was a lot, there was a lot of different people that were saying things. And I'm so happy that I have a team that really guided me and believed in my vision. And I don't feel like I've tapped into it exactly, but I think this is a great start.
