What will win in a... Oh, that was salty.
Anyhow, what will win in a track race
between a Rolls-Royce Cullinan Black Badge and a Bentley Bentayga?
This is one luxury SUV drag race I've been wanting to do for years.
And here we are. I'm going to race them over the standing quarter mile.
I'm Matt Watson, and you're watching Car Wow.
And I've got, like, road salt in my mouth.
The Rolls-Royce Cullinan Black Badge has a 6.75-litre twin-turbo V12,
600 horsepower, 900 newton-metres of torque,
all-wheel drive, and an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
It weighs 2,660 kilograms,
and new versions cost from around £380,000.
The Bentley Bentayga has a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8,
550 horsepower, 770 newton-metres of torque,
all-wheel drive, and an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
It weighs 2,416 kilograms,
and the latest versions cost from £227,000.
Now, ideally, I would have liked to have the W12 version of the Bentayga
to race against this V12 Rolls-Royce.
However, these cars actually closer, matched in terms of performance.
So, it's the right line-up.
And still, we've got Bentley versus Rolls-Royce.
Now, obviously, I like the higher things in life.
So, we've got the right person to drive the Bentley,
someone who's more liable to slum it than me.
Yanni, how are you doing?
I'm okay.
So, you know underneath the skin,
that car there shares a lot of its parts with your Lamborghini Urus, right?
I do know that.
All from the VW group.
So, Bentley Bentayga, Porsche Cayenne, Urus, and the Audi Q8.
Very, very similar, different tunings.
What do you think of the interior of that compared to your Urus?
I'm going to be honest with you.
I don't like Bentayga whatsoever.
I don't know how it looks.
I don't like the interior.
I just don't like Bentayga at all.
What do you think of Cullinan? Do you like Cullinan?
I prefer a Cullinan.
I think it's a lot more luxury,
but that Rolls-Royce-Bentley difference between the two, huge.
I actually really like Bentleys.
I love their interiors. That's funny.
I prefer the interior than in your Lamborghini.
Just saying.
I love criticising other people's cars that I can't afford.
Old-school Bentley Mulliner style.
That was the thing that we used to do when we used to retrim our cars.
So, Bentley Mulliner style, Bentley Mulliner style.
I think other brands have come and overtaken Bentley now.
Okay, let's move on from the luxury and talk about the sound quality.
So, I'm going to rev up my V12.
Have a little listen to this.
I don't even have a rev counter.
I've just got a power reserve meter,
which doesn't move when I'm revving the engine.
It's almost like it hasn't got a softener attached.
Everything sounds like it's coming from the front.
It doesn't actually sound like there's an exhaust.
It just sounds like the engine's just going crazy.
You've got soft limits and all sorts of stuff.
I'll tell you what's incredible about this.
You know when you rev a big engine, you get the body moving and stuff?
Not with this. It doesn't move.
Hardly moves. It's just so mellow.
What I'm going to do is put this coin on the engine
and now let's see how smooth it is.
Rev it.
The coin is not falling over.
Okay, let's go on with the race.
Right, got my suspension in the lowest setting.
I've got my gearbox in low, so it'll hold on to a low gear.
I'm all ready to go. Come on, Rolls-Royce, beat the Bentley.
Okay. Oh, I'm gone.
It ain't pulling me back either.
Your face looks shocked, Matt.
I got spanked. Best two out of three,
but I don't think it's going to get any better for me.
Yeah, this just took off well
and I looked to see if you were coming to even catch me
and it's like, nah.
What's the weight difference between the two?
Yours is 2.4, mine's 2.7.
But I'm in the car, so I'll start even it out.
Ah.
Do you want to do best two out of three, just cos?
Yeah, just cos.
Just lower my car. What I'm going to also do
is lower my spirit of ecstasy.
That's going to give me one tenth of a second.
Here we go. Come on, baby.
Three, two...
Mullered me off the line there.
Oh, you got a better launch that time.
Yeah, launch was quite good that time.
You look really disappointed.
Did you think that I was going to beat this?
I never in a million years.
I might have a chance in one of the other challenges,
but before that, let's do the thing.
So then what exactly happened?
Well, the Bentley won.
It completed the standing quarter mile in 12.5 seconds.
The Rolls-Royce took 13 seconds.
Right, now we're going to have a rolling race from 50 miles an hour.
The car's in automatic mode
because the Rolls-Royce has no manual gear selection,
unlike the Bentley.
We're going to have it in its low mode,
so it'll hold on to its lower gear for as long as possible.
But seeing as I'm going to floor the throttle,
it doesn't really make any difference anyway.
He's going to run with his car in the B mode,
which is like some kind of comfort automatic setting.
Then we're going to race over the half mile.
We're going to roll into it from 50 miles an hour.
Now, before we do, I found a deal on a car
that is pretty much the same underneath the skin
as that Bentley Bentayga, right?
I've configured the car myself.
If you want to see what the car is and the saving,
click on the pop-out bar up there for the QR code on screen now.
Alternatively, you can just find the link in the description of this video.
You'll be surprised.
Anyhow, are you going to be surprised about this race?
Let's find out. We're going to get into it.
Three, two, one, go.
Kick down.
Oh, it's kicked down so well.
Come on, Rolls.
Here we go.
Come on. I'm more excited now in this race.
Oh, I'm not going to catch him.
What do you think about that?
Surprised me.
I actually thought I was going to start pulling you back in and I wasn't.
So, basically, that car is just better at launching
because you've got launch control. I haven't.
Do you want to try it from slightly slower?
You can go manual mode and everything. Let's just see.
I don't want to break it to you.
I don't have launch control in this car, by the way.
Don't you?
Nope, I checked.
Are you sure?
I asked knowledgeable Rory and he said to me there's no launch in this.
I asked Rory, bro. There's no launch.
Just jump out a sec.
No, no, there's no launch.
Just show it. There's no launch.
Why are you going to make me get out of the car?
There's no launch, Matt.
Watch. Watch my smug face in two minutes.
Okay. Right. So, sport.
Where's the stability control on this?
Sport mode. Ready?
I don't know what it's going to do.
ESC stability sport.
Look. It's not doing it.
Launch control.
No, there wasn't.
It said it. Look.
No, there wasn't. Don't try it.
There it is. Look.
They got the GoPro there, mate.
He said, don't try it.
It's showing it.
Bentley safeguard.
It's showing it. No, it's showing it.
Look. Launch control.
Told you.
Just let me know when you want to say sorry.
I don't need to. You should say sorry.
Be the bigger man and just say, I'm sorry.
You got it wrong.
Look, everyone can see that it clearly said launch.
It said launch control, didn't it?
We're going to do the same thing again.
You can go in manual mode.
Second gear. You ready?
We'll do it from about 30.
Here we go. Three, two, one.
Go.
Come on, roller.
Close.
Look at Matt's face when it's like this.
He's got me this time.
I'm backing out because my car changed up right at the point where I said go.
I'm just going to do it again because it's going to be close.
My car also changed up at that point and I put it back into second gear.
Let's go. Three, two, one.
Go.
Yeah, I don't know about that.
I'm still going to catch him.
Is he coming back? I don't know.
This is worse.
I'm not going to catch him, am I?
Oh, he's coming back, but he's not getting up.
No, I'm not sure about that.
I think we need to redo that again, bro.
Okay, let's go.
Three, two, one.
Go.
Change it up and then down.
We'll just leave the rolling race as it was.
It's too hard to do.
Right, now we're going to have a brake test from 100 miles an hour.
The car that stops in the shortest distance wins.
And do you know what? Let's have this as the decider.
You won the drag race. I won the rolling race.
This is it. It's all down to the brake test.
Now, if you'd rather watch another drag race with a Cullinan,
click on the pop-out banner for the link in the description below.
If not, stay here for the brake test because here it is, coming now.
It's clear lost.
Bittersweet memories.
Damn. Listen, I want to say a huge thank you to Clive Sutton
for lending us his Bentayga to drag race.
Really appreciate it. Thank you, Clive.
If you want to check out what stock he's got available,
there's a link in the description to this video.
Also, thank you to iX for lending us this car.
Really appreciate it, guys. You can rent it from them.
