Welcome to the channel. Today, we're diving into the story of a brand that forever changed the
way the world looked at watches, Roskopf NC. The story begins with Georg Friedrich Roskopf,
a German-born watchmaker from Miederweiler, Deutschland, who settled in La Chaux-de-Fonds,
Suisse, the beating heart of Swiss watchmaking. Roskopf had a simple but revolutionary idea for
his time, to create a high-quality watch that everyone could afford, not just the wealthy elite.
In 1867, he introduced his famous Montreux du Proletaire, the worker's watch also known as
the Roskopf patent. It was a strong, reliable, and affordable timepiece designed for everyday
people. The secret lay in its mechanism. Roskopf replaced the expensive anchor escapement with a
pin-palette escapement, or a Chapman-Augupil, which was simpler, easier to manufacture,
and still accurate. At first, traditional watchmakers criticized his concept,
saying it was impossible to make a good watch at such a low cost. But time proved them wrong.
The Roskopf watch became a huge success among aviaries, lavatories, trabegedories, and workers
across Europe admired for its durability, precision, and accessible price. After Roskopf's
death, the company continued as Roskopf Fancy, and later Roskopf Patent, staying true to the
same mission, to make watchmaking practical, reliable, and democratic. Today, Roskopf watches
are sought after collector's pieces, symbols of innovation, simplicity, and the democratization
of horology. So, did you already know this historic brand? Tell us in the comments,
