I'm filming this right after the previous video. You all may recognise that I'm in exactly the
same outfit because I wanted to discuss decluttering. It's nothing new, you know,
to a minimalist audience. You all know that every now and then I do a declutter,
despite not really having that much stuff. Now, it's not because I constantly go out and buy new
things. I'm definitely not in a buy declutter cycle. What happens for myself personally is I
sometimes just adjust my lifestyle or adjust how I have things organised, which means that some
things that I thought I couldn't previously declutter, all of a sudden seem like there is
no need for them. And that is the case here. The other day, I decided to have a little bit of a
and it made me realise that there were some things in my kitchen and around the home
that I just didn't want anymore. And also, because I sort of suggested in the last video,
I might actually introduce a few new things into my wardrobe. Because our home is so small,
whenever new items, no matter what they are, enter the space, it almost does make me feel
like I have a need to do a one in one out, even if that's in a different category of belongings.
And there's areas that begin to feel more bothersome. Now, I have recently discussed
how because we got a desk and things in the bedroom, the bedroom has become a space that
doesn't feel as minimal as it once was. Like if you look back to only a couple of months ago,
all we had in our bedroom was a bed. But now we have the desk. And because I had the desk,
I put a lamp on it. And because I had a spare surface, I put a plant on it. And after about
a month of living with that, I decided it felt a bit much. So I wanted to test out the RIPD clutter
method around the whole home, which is where I get things that I'm not truly sure about whether
I want to get rid of, move them somewhere else for a short while to rest in peace my space around
my home to see whether I prefer it without. So today, what we're actually going to do is
a mini declutter of things I actually know I'm getting rid of and a little pile of stuff I'm
not sure about. Now, I have previously already done that with some stuff. So let me show you
the things I definitely plan to get rid of. One moment. So first of all, I have absolutely gone
around the houses, as we say, with this plant. It's been repotted, potted, repotted, potted. I
feel so sorry for it. I am surprised it is still alive, but it is. And truth be told, there is just
now not really a space to put this plant. There just isn't. And of all my plants, I think I like
my potos and my new cutting of my monstera the most. This sort of pot it's currently in,
it's harder to pair with the colour and aesthetic around the home. So I am going to gift this to
somebody. It is definitely going. Now, because I've decided I'm all but giving up on plants except
for two plants, not because I don't love plants anymore, but because I do plan to travel a lot
this year, I am worried that they will not survive. I have all this spare soil. It's time it went. I
think I might have even previously said I was going to declutter that, but then I kept changing
my mind about what I wanted to do with the plants. Let me move back so you can all actually see.
Can you all see that? The next thing is I've spoken about this at great length before,
but as somebody who is an extreme minimalist and also trying to be as eco-friendly as possible,
when I have nice containers, I am tempted to keep them. There's a part of my brain that's
that could come in useful, but it never does. It never does because I'm definitely, I think,
these days becoming more of a practical minimalist as well and really learning to be a bit more
essentialist. It's a lovely bottle with a cork, but I just don't ever end up doing anything with
it. It has sat on our windowsill for the longest time. I'm going to give it away to somebody who
might actually do something with it. Then there is an in-between thing too.
This glass pan, I mentioned previously decluttering it, and then somebody very
helpfully said to me, why not glue it with super glue? It sat on the side for about two weeks while
I waited to super glue it because the handle kept falling off. Then because I got used to not using
it, even after I'd fixed it, I thought, I've got used to not using it now, so it feels extra.
So the thing of what I'm basically saying is, although I fixed it, it can now be useful to
somebody else, but I actually don't want it. So I am going to declutter the glass pan.
The other thing is I have had these for a very long time. There've been various different things.
We originally did have them as soap dispensers. At one point we had them as shampoo and conditioner.
At some point we had them as cleaning bottles. They then even got reused as sort of
coffee syrup bottles. I finally don't have a need for them. There is just no need for them. So they've
been well soaked out and now I am going to gift them to my mum. They're all going. I feel like
there was something else. I'll be right back. I was right. I was right. There is something else.
So I had this diffuser for a long time in our bathroom and it is pretty. It really is pretty,
but this is one of the things that when you look around the home and you're really looking
for that sort of spacious, really minimal aesthetic, it just feels extra and not necessary.
So I just don't really feel like we need it because we have a candle in the bathroom
and a candle in the living room, case in point, and if you really want it to smell nice in there
you could just light the candle for a bit. So this almost feels extra. I was just putting
sort of lavender essential oil in there and then using the dried lavender stalks as a natural way
of having a diffuser. It's a great idea. I've enjoyed it for a very long time,
but I'm starting to want to get rid of all those little extras that really don't feel essential.
That was the cork thing off of the candle. For some reason I end up saving these,
the eco-minimalist in me, the lids from the candles. I think all that, you know, they're
great. You can use them as a coaster, but then I end up with loads of them. I don't need them.
This was the previous stand for this plant pot, just in case it leaks waters, just in case being
the point. The truth is the plant pot doesn't ever hardly leak water. I don't know why I have this
plate on it. It's not like it's one of the ones with a hole on it. I don't need it, but I will
give that to the person that has it just in case they decide to put it, just in case, on the wall
because it comes with like a little screw hole so that if you don't have any surfaces you can put
them up on your wall. I don't know whether some of you remember when I did used to have a few on
the wall, but I have since decluttered it. I've been waiting for around six months to see if
there's anything that I want to do with that and there hasn't been. It's going. So these things I
am definitely getting rid of. However, there are two things in the bedroom that I'm going to put
in the resting piece pile. So wait there whilst I show you what they are because they may actually
make quite a dramatic difference to kind of how bare and minimal the bedroom feels and I am using
the word bare because although bareness isn't something that some people want. Some people want
minimalism and it to feel spacious but without feeling bare. I'm actually getting to a point
where I actually kind of like the bare feeling. It really brings a sense of calmness to my mind
which at this point more than ever is something that I really need. So let me go get you the two
things from my bedroom that are probably the last item that could be classed as decor.
So these two items are actually the last pieces of decor in my home. Everything else that I have
really provides a function like some people might class a lamp as decor but I don't because it
provides a function of being a light. We have a fruit bowl in our kitchen that a few people say
oh is that a decor item but it's not. It helps us store our fruit because we have such a small
kitchen. So anything now that you see in our home really is for utilitarian purposes. It has a
utility and a purpose. These really don't. For quite a while I did consider this to be almost
like an air freshener because the dried lavender does give off a little bit of a lavender scent
which is nice like an again a natural air freshener but I find myself more and more just
lighting my natural essential oil candles. So if I do that I don't really need this as well.
This was a gift. I didn't actually buy it from a friend but my friend recently got me another
little gift that's very similar and I don't feel like I need both so I am going to re-gift this
to somebody who isn't as minimalist as me and doesn't mind getting little gifts like that.
So I hope you've enjoyed this very little declutter but I like to do things like this every now and
then to re-question what I use and because I did reorganise the kitchen things like this became
very apparent that I don't use them. So much so that we have actually now got a whole empty cupboard
in the kitchen. So that's something that you can all look forward to seeing on the home tour
which I think may very well be next week now. We've done the update on the wardrobe, I've done
this mini declutter ahead of giving you all an updated full walkthrough home tour. See you all later, bye!
