Waterfalls, Raccoons, and "The Snip": Motorcycle Camping in a Cabin at Silver Falls State Park
Motorcycle camping in the winter can be a challenge, but with some flexible thinking and a lot of research, it can still be done. I took advantage of some ridiculously warm winter weather and got out on another motorcycle camping trip in February, this time to Silver Falls State Park. Rather than sleeping in my tent this time, I decided to check out one of the cabins they offer for rent there. It was an awesome evening of hanging out by the campfire, cooking BBQ chicken sandwiches, enjoying beverages and a Mr. Puff Puff, and just generally trying to stay warm (like on every moto camping trip). One of the big highlights of this motorcycle camping trip was the small furry visitor I had about 7:30pm. A raccoon wandered into my camp and hung out for a full ten minutes or so before scampering off to hang out in a tree and watch me from above. It's the closest I've ever been to a raccoon and it was a very cool camping wildlife encounter! In the morning, I used my motorcycle camping gear to make some coffee and oatmeal to enjoy by the fire before heading over to check out South Falls at Silver Falls State Park. A short hike from the parking lot at the Silver Falls Day Use area and I was there, gazing at a beautiful waterfall hundreds of feet high. What a great way to end this super fun winter motocamping adventure.
