Day 1 in Ningbo featuring Sonmez, Shnaider, Bencic and more ｜ WTA Match Highlights).

Nicely finished off. Top four seeds got byes. That's terrific tennis. She loves the drop shot. Oh, a fine play there with the volley. Brilliant return. Was in the slot though, the serve. Difficult to watch for Kennen. The more you're out here, the more chance you can of finding the level that she would want. Just feels like she's half a step slow to everything. As she felt there, she tried to take a little bit of pace off it. It's her first visit here, two points away from the win. It's her quickest match of the year. As good as it was for Kessler, that was a tough watch for Kennen. Just not at the races. First meeting, the only Americans in the draw. It's the lower ranked American, Kessler. Nine titles in Hughes there to coach Lynette. That's sweet ball striking. Why now? Of course, she had the advantage of good tennis at the end of last year. Best point of the day. All eyes on the winner. All saved by Bencic. Match point then. Finished off for an impressive winner. Her trademark, that early backhand. And for the second time, it's a straight sets win for Belinda Bencic against Magda Lynette, who played much better. Certainly that last third of the match. Bencic's first visit here at Ningbo. What has been a brilliant year for her. Semi-finalist at Wimbledon. Losing all her height there to cover the net. Schneider picking the wrong shot, I think. Needs to look to try and put the disappointment of having not got an opening set in the bag. Fantastic coverage there from Schneider. Forehand's come out flying in this second set. And now she gets the job done. Huge roar there from the seventh seed. Probably a little bit of relief as well to finally get the job done. Well, for Wong, that will probably feel like a case of a few missed opportunities there. But for Schneider, a much needed win. Further evidence of that hefty forehand from Starodubtseva. Rock solid in the end after a bit of a slow start to that service game. She holds on nicely for Starodubtseva. Oh, beautiful hand skills on arrival there from Starodubtseva. It's great versatility. Wonderful hands. Oh, outstanding. What an athletic finish there from Yulia Starodubtseva. It was a terrific drop shot from Puddin Saver. Oh, yes. Great angle. Oh, what racket control from Yulia Puddin Saver. Oh, proactive game from Puddin Saver. Back-to-back winners off the backhand wing. Yulia Starodubtseva strikes fierce and fearless. She took the heat, owned the pace, and outplayed the disruptor. A statement win from the college-crafted contender. Beautiful hands. Really soft skills there. Oh, superb. The stronger side from Saznovich. Brilliant from Saznovich. Getting up the court quickly to pounce on that. Oh, she's found the back of the line with the forehand volley. What an athlete she is. Alexandra Saznovich. Great stretch volley. Good athletic finish there from Zeynep Sonmez. High class point from Alexandra Saznovich. Oh, she found it. Stunning backhand winner on the line from Sonmez. She's picked up her first serve percentage. Landing a few more in the second set. Oh, that's wonderful. The off forehand winner from the Turkish number one. How about this one? Yep, gets the smash put away. That is great athleticism from Zeynep Sonmez. Oh, something very special there. Zeynep Sonmez in. Depth, drive, and defiance. She comes back to dismantle the disruptor. A breakthrough built on belief for the Turkish number one.
